    In this episode, CFRC’s Local Journalism Initiative Reporter, Christena Lawrie provides a breakdown of the Kingston Chamber of Commerce City Council Report Card. Then, Local Journalism Initiative News Producer, Jesse Bell covers a pair of pieces from LJI contributors. The first piece, a report on proposed austerity measures at Queen’s University, is sourced from LJI Reporter Owen Fullerton in YGK News. Jesse’s second report is from Brockville Times & Recorder LJI Reporter, Keith Dempsey, and it pertains to proposed affordable housing developments in the region. Dinah Jansen reads a piece from Kingstonist LJI Reporter Michelle Dorey-Forestell about the forgiveness of an abnormally high water bill for the St. Mary Magdalene Church. CJAI LJI Reporter Ted Evans provides a pair of reports related to Livestock Valuers and the installation of Flowerpots in the Loyalist Area. CJPE LJI Reporters Craig Foster and Brenda Little submit reports related to Transportation Issues in Prince Edward County, and developments at a Town Council meeting.     In this episode, CFRC’s Local Journalism Initiative Reporter Chris Lawrie covers the Kingston Museum of Health Care’s recent feature on the History Channel.  Mia Lehtinen reads LJI Reporter Owen Fullerton’s YGK News report on Skeleton Park Brewery’s recent acquisition of two new breweries followed by Katrina Johnston reading LJI Reporter Michelle Dorey Forestell’s Kingstonist.com report on an accused Napanee arsonist’s recent court appearance.  Dinah Jansen follows reading two articles from Brockville Recorder & Times LJI Reporter Keith Dempsey on replacement of an offensive street name and recent food bank activities in the Township of Leeds and the Thousand Islands.  Ted Evans, LJI Reporter from CJAI FM follows with a report on a Bath veteran’s release of a new song on Remembrance Day.  A volunteer from CJPE County FM follows with an LJI report on tourism opportunities in Picton ahead of the Spring 2024 solar eclipse and we end the show with a report from Jeff Gard, LJI reporter for CFWN on recent achievements of two Cobourg athletes at the Pan-Am Games.

    In this program we provide Local Journalism Initiative reportage for Kingston and the region.  First,  we feature a report from Owen Fullerton, Local Journalism Reporter for YGK News on Girls in Kingston and surrounding town having an opportunity to explore trades October 26th 2023 at St. Lawrence College.  Next, we have a report from Keith Dempsey, Local Journalism Initiative Reporter for the Brockville Recorder and Times on an upcoming  Township of Leeds and the Thousand Islands council  public meeting on November 6th at 6 PM for the purpose of a discussing a private road renaming to replace an offensive street name off Back Street in Seeley’s Bay called Squaw Point Lane. Keith Dempsey also reported that an affordable housing project is slowly taking shape in Gananoque under the auspices of Habitat for Humanity Thousand Islands.

    CFRC’s own Chris Lawrie ffollows with a report on critical food sharing project in Kingston, followed by reportage from Michelle Dorey Forestell, Local Journalism Initiative Reporter for Kingstonist.com on the recent loss of a Napanee arena due to a recent suspicious fire and an inquest into an inmate death at Quinte Detention Centre. Ted Evans, Local Journalism Initiative Reporter for CJAI Amherst Island radio follows with a report on Loyalist Township’s participation in a community security footage program, and we end with Jeff Gard, Local Journalism Reporter for CFWN FM in Cobourg with a report on the Canadian Fire Fighters’ museum finding a new long-term home in Coburg alongside a report on the state of bike thefts in the town.

    In this episode of The Corridor broadcasting on CFRC 101.9 FM on October 19th 2023, we catch up with local artist Devon Ellis about her work in special effects and set design with Visual Menace and the upcoming family-friendly DIY Special Effects Makeup Workshop she is facilitating on October 28th at the Broom Factory in Kingston in collaboration with Kingston Canadian Film Festival and Kingston Film and Media.  More information about the workshop and tickets is available here.

    In other local and regional news from Local Journalism Reporters, Chris Lawrie of CFRC reports on Kingston City Council supports for harm reduction efforts during Queen’s  University Homecoming happening October 20-21st 2023.  Ted Evans of CJAI FM Amherst Island Radio reports on Loyalist Township Council’s recent vote to relocate the stone walls at MacKinnon Brewery.  Katrina Johnston also reads a report from Michelle Dorey-Forestell of the Kingstonist.com about the reopening of the Lunch by George food service program in Kingston.  Mia Lehtinen also reads a report by Owen Fullerton of YGK News about concerns by students from India about the ongoing breakdown of diplomatic relations between India and Canada.  Finally, Jeff Gard of CFWN FM in Cobourg repots on the Cobourg Legion’s appeal for community support after a break-in at the facility.

    With this premier episode of The Corridor, we feature a story from Keith Dempsey of the Brockville Recorder and Times for the Local Journalism Initiative about a 35-acre land gift given to the Town of Gananoque.  We also have an article by LJI Reporter Owen Fullerton for YGK News about  the Kingston Health Coalition and several hospital unions engaging in a large protest at Queen’s Park on September 25th 2023.  Further, Michelle Dorey Forestell, LJI Reporter for the Kingstonist reported on moral dilemmas associated with the overdose prevention site housed at Collins Bay Institution, one of Kingston’s largest penitentiaries.  These stories were read by host Dinah Jansen and Queen’s University History Department Interns Mia Lehtinen and Katrina Johnston.

    Additionally, CFRC FM’s own LJI Reporter Chris Lawrie reports on an exhibit at Stauffer Library in Kingston that showcased Indigenous artists ahead of the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.  Ted Evans, LJI Reporter for CJAI FM (Amherst Island) reported on Loyalist Township’s recent enactment of a new tree canopy and vegetation bylaw and the Township’s recent call for public input on its master plan and budget.  We also have two reports from Alexander Wright, LJI Reporter from CJPE FM in Picton on Prince Edward County’s Council amendments to short term accommodations rules to make them more family friendly and Council’s recent approval of its spot road repair program and street sweeper replacement plan.  Jeff Gard, LJI Reporter from CFWN FM in Coburg also reported on the community’s Walk-a-Mile event in support of Cornerstone Family Violence Prevention.
