    Doug Bragg

    Doug Bragg

Doug Bragg's name caught my attention while looking through the Louisiana Hayride show line ups. He started appearing on Hayride shows in 1956 and continued into 1960, that was 4 years of Hayride appearances. Since I was not familiar with his name, I dug a little deeper and made Doug Bragg our Unknown Legend feature for this episode.

    The Louisiana Hayride

    The Louisiana Hayride

Today's featured guest on the Country Music Unknown Legends Podcast is not a person or a place, it is more of an event. A phenomenon. The Louisiana Hayride.
It is possible you have heard the name, Louisiana Hayride, due to the recent popularity of the new Elvis movie. But it was more than just a show Elvis played at the beginning of his career.
For 12 years the Hayride impacted music far beyond its time of existence, the DNA of the Hayride still exists in artists today. And just think, it bordered on being forgotten in the 70's and early 80's.
Today we take a look at this the Hayride started and what made it a phenomenon.

    Clyde Moody

    Clyde Moody

Today's Unknown Legend may be an example of what host, John Mathis Jr. has mentioned briefly before about fame. Perhaps if some artists were born a decade later and their accomplishments had happened later, their status in the memory of pop culture would be more prevalent.
Our featured "Unknown Legend" today contributed to three areas of evolving forms of Country Music in his career as well as having a million selling record. If you're a hard core Country Music history fan, you may know his name, but most do not today. Which is why we're paying tribute to Clyde Moody!

    Carla Cates

    Carla Cates

Today's Country Music Unknown Legends Podcast features a female Country Music artist whose career only spanned a few short years in 1959 and 1960. She got the chance to be a part of the roster of artists on the legendary Louisiana Hayride, performing on shows with Roger Miller, George Jones, Lefty Frizzell and others. Although she didn't get her big break she was probably hoping for and become famous, her career posthumously has a little twist to it.

    Johnny Rion

In today's episode of The Country Music Unknown Legends Podcast, we pay tribute to Johnny Rion. The host of podcast, John Mathis Jr., first noticed Rion's name in a letter to him from 1954. Rion was a dee jay at a St Louis radio station and the duo of Jimmy and Johnny were writing to promote their new single, hoping for some spins in the St Louis area.
As it turns out, Johnny Rion was more than just a dee jay ... he's one of our unknown legends we're going to feature today.
