    WCML 120: Peaceful Productivity 5: Peaceful Mind Management

    Productivity? Ehh, maybe later.

    Procrastination makes you crater.

    Thrashing can stop you,

    Overwhelm drops you.

    What if you had a translator?

    * procrastination

    * this could be because you’re overwhelmed, thrashing, or unmotivated. We’ll cover the first 2 of these today. (Motivation was covered in WCML 118: Peaceful Productivity 3: Peaceful Motivation, episode 3 in this series.)

    * What about resistance? resistance is misguided attraction

    * Last resort: Productive Procrastination (structured procrastination)

    * thrashing

    * noticing, e.g. on the days when i stick to some kind of structure I feel better, I feel more productive, I don’t have that flailing around thrashing feeling

    * separate planning from doing

    * batch it or batshit

    * overwhelm

    * underwhelm

    * open loops

    * trusted systems

    * post-it notes: How to get organized, part one: coffee table + post-it notes = business plan! and WCML 094: MasterHeart: Like a mastermind but, you know, heartier.

    WCML 119: Peaceful Productivity 4: Peaceful Time Management

    WCML 119: Peaceful Productivity 4: Peaceful Time Management

    “Productively manage your time.”

    Sounds like a steep uphill climb.

    But that is fallacious!

    You can feel spacious,

    And slacking need not be a crime.

    * “not enough time” is a polite lie

    * aligning your time with your priorities

    * WCML 068: Wild Crazy Meaningful Death, with Caitlin Doughty

    * pathfinding

    * reminder: boil shoulds and have-to’s down to wants

    * It’s better to make tough “this can wait” decisions than to feel overwhelmed.

    * choice

    * tyranny of choice (“It’s bread, in crumb form”)

    * manufacturing happiness only works when you’re locked in

    * perfectionism

    * “I need to be perfect because…”

    * you are enough

    * Turn it around and remember your new mantra in the moment.

    * tiers or tears: Tier 1 “must-do”, Tier 2 “would be awesome”, Tier 3 “would be nice” (http://pacesmith.com/tiers/)

    * The Leonie Effect

    * practicing (e.g. no backspace in email)

    WCML 118: Peaceful Productivity 3: Peaceful Motivation

    Productivity? Self-flagellation.

    But only if you feel stagnation.

    Begin at the root

    And the rest follows suit:

    Help yourself feel motivation!

    * we do what we most want to do (triple soul)

    * why this is helpful – e.g. resistance to habit, procrastination, thrashing

    * goals vs. intentions. does “goal” mean strict and rigid? if so then set an intention instead.

    * is this a “should” or “have to” goal?

    * the paradox of change

    * all-love Mondays

    * 1. not inspired? you need taste

    * the “just 5 minutes” trick – give yourself permission

    * futureme.org

    * visualize the process, not just the end result

    * 2. inspired but not motivated? you need energy

    * 3. motivated but not taking action? you need the right environment

    * smoothness

    * pickling

    WCML 117: Peaceful Productivity 2: Peaceful Habits

    WCML 117: Peaceful Productivity 2: Peaceful Habits

    Productivity isn’t traumatic

    If you make it less vague and erratic.

    Don’t push and don’t force,

    Instead, set the course,

    Then accomplish things on automatic!

    * when it’s good to be on autopilot and when it’s dangerous. habits vs. practices (autopilot vs. mindful)

    * habits got a bad rap

    * “morning routines, morning autopilot, was what I have used, ever since high school, to get from nice comfy bed to horrible morning school or job. Autopilot doesn’t take me anyplace good.” – a past student

    * “good” habits vs. “bad” habits

    * let go of “should”

    * motivation to form a habit (see also next week)

    * Gretchen Rubin’s habit types:

    * Upholders wake up and think, “What’s on the schedule and the to-do list for today?”

    * Rebels wake up and think, “What do I want to do today?”

    * Obligers wake up and think, “What must I do today?”

    * Questioners wake up and think, “What needs to get done today, and why?”

    * What Kind of Person Are You? The Four Rubin Tendencies.

    * “Better Than Before”

    * The 6 keys to forming a habit:

    * 30-day trial

    * little changes

    * one at a time

    * trigger

    * accountability

    * celebrate!

    * 2 special cases:

    * when your routine changes, either find a trigger that will stay the same, or plan to reinstate your habit later

    * you can’t quit, you can only replace.

    WCML 116: Peaceful Productivity 1: Peaceful Self-Care

    WCML 116: Peaceful Productivity 1: Peaceful Self-Care

    Productivity? Better beware.

    I’ll compare, which will lead to despair.

    Instead of this struggle,

    How ’bout a nice snuggle?

    Let’s start off with peaceful self-care.

    * making peace with productivity

    * “I am hard on myself when I feel unproductive.” survey question. half the class agreed and the other half… strongly agreed.

    * tapes

    * rewriting tapes. you can’t erase them.

    * “I get more done in one hour when I’m well-rested than I get done in eight hours of pushing through.”

    * “I would rather be a peaceful failure than a stressed-out success.”

    * “Taking care of myself is important, valuable, and necessary.”

    * “I’m worthy of love for who I am, not for what I do.”

    * self-trust

    * we are heart people in a brain world

    * Help Wanted story

    * structure

    * resistance to structure, like “you have to go to bed now” as a kid

    * I used to think “structure meant a lack of freedom”

    * structure = “I have to get up at 8am” but it doesn’t have to be like that. It can be semi-flexible

    * acceptance and compassion. whatever you choose, even if it’s not the productive option, choose it wholeheartedly

    * resisting the things that are the most important – it’s actually a good sign

    * Spiritual practice is the magic bullet for maintaining peace.

    * Rest and play

    * Give yourself permission to be where you are and take care of yourself

    * Spaciousness inside out. Heart first, calendar second.

    * Stay-at-home retreat

    * Even a little time is enough to be kind to yourself

    * Put your own oxygen mask on first. “If your compassion does not include yourself, it is incomplete.” -Jack Kornfield

    * capacity management – schedule recovery days, don’t oversocial yourself before a big social thing

    * What even is self-care? How to know what is effective self-care for yourself.

    WCML 115: Pace and Kyeli’s words of the year for 2017

    2017 is nigh here;

    Let’s shift to a much lower gear.

    We’ve always preferred

    To choose just one word

    To set our intent for the year.

    * Pace’s previous words of the year: acceptance, annihilation, surrender, pantry, easy mode

    * Kyeli’s previous words of the year: courageous, open, mermaid, epic

    * How easy mode has shaped Pace’s 2016

    * How epic has shaped Kyeli’s 2016

    * Pace’s word of the year for 2017

    * Kyeli’s word of the year for 2017

AGJelley ,

Love, love, love!

I just adore Pace & Kyeli -- I'm hard pressed to think of two people who are more curious, thoughtful, and heartfull in their interactions with each other and life. I always leave their episodes feeling inspired. Thanks for all you do, you two!

So wonderful!

This is my new podcast obsession. I’m loving how they explore a wide range of topics through the lens of living intentionally. :)

the happy tester ,

Pace and Kyeli are awesome!

I love this podcast and its earlier incarnations, but as an Android user, was never able to leave a review. Luckily, I just got access to an iPhone, so let me tell you - this is FANTASTIC for listening while driving, listening while cooking, or listening while making art. Pace and Kyeli always have something interesting to share and a few laughs along the way. I particularly loved learning the hand gesture for "deconflate". I listen to these as they come out, but I'm pretty sure they'd make good binge listening if you want to start at the beginning. Also, the titles and show notes are great for finding the topics you love or guests you wanted to hear again.
