S2 EP 1 The Footballer's Mentality ft. Terry Phelan
The DPDL Talent Development Podcast returns with a new season! To kick things off, we're joined by former Kerala Blaster's Head Coach - Terry Phelan. He made 42 appearances for the Irish national team, whom he represented at the 1994 FIFA World Cup. Throughout the 90's, Terry established himself as a regular in the English Premier League representing AFC Wimbledon, Manchester City, Chelsea, Crystal Palace, Everton, Fulham and many more. He is currently the Technical Director at South United Football Club in Bengaluru and continues to play a key role guiding and mentoring upcoming coaches at the club. In the episode, we discuss Terry's journey developing as a talent from the Leeds United Academy and making it professional. He talks about the importance of the environment for a coach and how Youth Coaches in India can improve their skills and knowledge of the game.

Episode 3: How to Build a Grassroots Football Academy ft. Bo Renes
Episode 3 dives into the journey of Bangalore City FC (BCFC) founder and Head Coach Bo Renes! From Holland to USA and finally to India - Coach Bo has a unique story, combining his passion for the game with his newly discovered love for India in the late 2000's. There are no shortcuts to success at the grassroots level, it takes time, patience, effort and a lot of love to build a success story like BCFC. Coach Bo takes us through his vision for building a talent development pathway at the academy, including how he prepares his two squads Mystics and Magics for competition. We also discuss the iconic moment BCFC were crowned Champions of Double Pass Development League (DPDL) back in 2019/20 by winning both U7 and U9 titles and finishing runner-up in the U11 category. Coach Bo highlights the important role that the community plays in building the football ecosystem and how every small & medium-sized academy can learn from his experiences.
