Episode #13: The Silver Halide Sessions - James Ollinger: The Genre Collector
The Ephemeral Machine presents another in the series of The Silver Halide Sessions: Interviews with Collectors, Aficionados, Historians, and Archivists.
Occasionally, a member of our community focusses on a very specific area of Camera Collecting and in doing so, provides access to a veritable wealth of information that allows us to align with a different and fascination aspect of this hobby..
James Ollinger has endeavored to endow his already substantial collection of cameras and ephemera with a robust and carefully documented array of light meters that track historically and technologically. Through this comprehensive intersection of two invaluable tools of photography, the camera and the light meter, James has offered a unique perspective into the Camera Collection universe. One that needs to be explored at a deeper level and one that we will discuss in greater detail.

Episode #10: The Silver Halide Sessions - Lisa Murphy: The Collector as Archivist/Historian
The Ephemeral Machine presents another in the series of The Silver Halide Sessions: Interviews with Collectors, Aficionados, Historians, and Archivists.
My guest, Lisa Murphy, hails from the east coast of Ireland, not too far from Ireland’s capital city of Dublin. Holding university degrees in archives, public history, and ancient history and archaeology, she has spent the past decade working in the fields of heritage and archives. She is currently employed as the Congregational Archivist for the Medical Missionaries of Mary where she documents and preserves the archives and records of this international missionary congregation of women religious. Her passion for history often spills over into her personal life and ultimately led her to begin her camera collecting journey in 2015. In January 2021, during Covid-19 pandemic, she decided to share insights into her hobby through her blog analoguearchivist.com. This personal project combines elements of both collecting and archival work and seeks to inform, assist, and engage with fellow collectors and photographers.
Our discussion covers an historical approach to Camera Collecting, provenance and research, the voice of Women Camera Collectors, and other engaging topics.

Serious but not Dry

The podcast is a collection of interviews with camera collectors of all sorts--from working professionals to hobbyists, historians to fans. Some people are focused on the broad picture, some have narrow interests. It's a great way to see cameras from a different point of view, maybe become introduced to a camera, a type, or an idea you've never thought of before.

It's a serious show but is not dry and academic. I think it would appeal to almost anyone who is interested in cameras, both the classics and the not-so classics.

Plus, any podcast that would have me as a guest rates five stars. (But I would have given it 5 stars regardless.)
