Nani’s Auntie Laura joins TFAW Project for a fun family episode sharing how she’s gone from being shameful to prideful about identifying as a Filipino American woman, what it was like to grow up in a place where nobody looked like her, and the evolution of identity politics she’s observed throughout the different generations of Pinays. As we examine how her career has unfolded leading up until this point, we discuss both the fear and reward that come with taking that leap of faith to explore outside of family expectations and cultural comfort zones to explore our potential for success.

100: “I need to, in a healthy way, move forward. I can’t have people tell me I have to wait my turn.” Celebrating 100 episodes of The Filipino American Woman Project with Jen Amos, Nani Dominguez and Stacey Anne Salinas

PSA! The #TFAWProject has reached a huge milestone on its podcasting journey. Join Jen, Nani, and our resident historian and one of our favorite people ever, Stacey Anne Salinas, to celebrate our 100th episode!
In this episode, we reflect on our evolving connection with the Bulosan Center at UC Davis, the amazing work they do, and how our organizations continue to support and uplift each other. As we discuss the lack of accessibility to resources that give context to the recent surge in anti-Asian hate crimes and histories of violence on Asian American women’s bodies’ specifically, we give thanks for the community we’ve built here and the space we’ve created to collectively learn and unpack together.
Since we recently revamped our logo, we also share some personal stories behind the design and how our new art fatefully represents how Asian American women are transforming society every day.
As co-hosts of the The Filipino American Woman (TFAW) Project podcast, we are beyond honored to have connected with and shared so many of our kumares stories, and carved out such an intimate healing space here for our community. We couldn’t have done it without you, and want to thank you from the bottom of our hearts for all your love and support.
We want to hear from you!

I always felt from a very young age that I didn’t quite fit in anywhere. I couldn’t relate to the “white” kids and I always sensed I would have a different experience from all the older mestizos I grew up with. When I started college I realized that being Filipino-American was more than just a subculture. I really felt lost about who and what I was when I left home and returned. I felt like an outsider in the community that raised me. Through TFAW project, I get to hear stories from other mestizas/first gen FilAms which make me feel less alone in my life experiences and I no longer feel like there’s “something wrong” with me. I feel like I’ve finally found somewhere I do belong and that my experiences aren’t so unusual after all.
