What Does Collective Liberatiom Mean?
What Does Collective Liberation Mean? - Sunday Reflection and Discussion
This week, Rev. Dr. Jonipher Kwong explains that collective liberation, as framed by Rev. MLK Jr. and found in Buddhist teachings on nirvana, means no one is truly free until everyone is free. This concept is crucial for understanding intersectionality today, highlighting the interconnectedness of our struggles for freedom and justice. -
Sports As A Civic Religion
Sports as Civic Religion- Sunday Reflection and Discussion
The Olympics were originally a religious festival. Sports are often at the center of modern life. While no longer overtly religious, sports in modern life is shot through with all of the trappings of religion, especially as that which binds us together. Exclusion from sports is not simply bullying but an attempt to exclude people from civic life.
Our guest speaker today is Lily Carayannis who is a graduate of Union Theological Seminary. Her day job is investigating NYPD officers who are accused of misconduct. Lily focuses her ministry on ecology, animal liberation, trans rights, and police reform.
