I’ve been listening to Tim and Frank since the start of 2015 and their engaging banter about pop culture in Beer with Geeks has been a mainstay in my podcast rotation. While I’ve always enjoyed their nostalgia inducing and often poignant back and forths on Star Wars, superhero’s and films of all genres, their early references to Chesterton, Bonhoeffer, Lewis and Tolkien rose my suspensions that they were fellow believers. I’m ecstatic to have it confirmed in such a bold way through this podcast.
Please don’t let my personal enthusiasm be a stumbling block for non believers - there is plenty to enjoy about weekly bite sized deep dives into the Star Wars and biblical frameworks for people of all world views. Tim and Frank have put a lot of thought into the parallels they draw and I’ve found it enhances my enjoyment and enriches my understanding of both the most popular film series of all time and the most historically impactful book ever written. Having another frame of reference and imagery to view the gospel from is captivating. For instance, I’m someone who thought the sequel trilogy was a major misstep and they have even drawn out rich imagery from those films that has helped me respect some of the vision even if the execution remains sour. As a non denominational Protestant I am also learning quite a bit about the Catholic Church which I find compelling.
In short, this podcast scratches an itch I didn’t even realize I had, and one that Frank and Tim are incredibly well equipped to handle. I’m so proud of the ministry that they have chosen to invest their time into, and as far as I’m concerned they are knocking it out of the park. Give it a listen, I find their love of faith informing.
