Four hillbillies in their 30's discuss anything and everything "nerdy" from cartoons vs anime to the best obscure Table Top RPGs to pretend to be lizardmen in. The Hills Have Nerds is a monthly podcast about nerd history, pop culture, nerdy endeavors, and the passion and creativity that ties it all together. Come join us each month as we take on a new topic and sometimes bring on our friends and special guests. Hopefully you'll enjoy listening as much as we enjoy talking!

Episode 13 - Optimizing the Fun Out of Games - "You Probably Shouldn't Smoke Poison Ivy...But You Can"
We're celebrating a year of Nerdin' in the Hills!
A year of nerdom has passed and we're so grateful for everyone who's listened, communicated, and hung out with us Nerds as we've went through it. Here's to another year of The Hills Have Nerds filled with even more talkin' and a'nerdin'!
But on today's topic we're discussing the question "To be optimal, or to have fun?" And are those two things mutually exclusive? Is there a "correct" way to play the games we love? Is the path of least resistance always the right path? This was a broad and subjective topic and we had a blast talking about it. We'd love to hear your takes on it, let us know at

The Hills Have Nerds LIVE Episode Audio - "I Don't Know What I Expected..."
Well, it took two months but we finally got the audio from the live episode from all the way back on March 11th 2024 uploaded here in all its chaotic form!
The Nerds sat down this episode and streamed live on Pixel Bro Lee's twitch channel. There's quite a bit of chat interaction and we tried to restate what they said where we remembered but it got off the rails pretty quick. This whole episode almost have Josh an aneurysm. Take that for what you will.
But for better or worse, here it is in all this episode's unhinged "glory"...

Episode 11 - Anime History, Senpai!- "Get the Whiteboard!!!"
(We'd like to dedicate this episode, for what our little podcast is worth, to the late and great Akira Toriyama. This episode was recorded a few days before his passing. His creations played a massive part in the lives of four little hillbillies pretending to throw spirit bombs in the backyard and we are sincerely grateful for it. He will be forever missed.)
Konnichiwa, fellow nerds!
Its finally here! The day the Nerds talk about Anime! Join Aaron, Josh, Cody, and Lee as they discuss the origins, development and broad appeal of that most cherished of artforms...Japanese Animation.
They'll lay out the timeline from Anime's forerunners up to all the multitude of contemporary genre's and so much in between! Where did Anime's distinctive style come from? Which one won an Oscar? Can Aaron even pronounce these Japanese titles? Give it a listen and then let us know what your favorite Anime is!

Episode 10 - Cozy Games - "There's a Little Man in Your Computer, and HE'S GOT A GUN?!"
Hey everyone!
This episode the Nerds are settling in, getting comfy, and having a nice relaxing chat about the Cozy Games genre. Animal Crossing, Stardew Valley, The Sims, Minecraft, and about a million others have all been referred to in one sense or another as "Cozy Games", or those games that have relatively low pressure gameplay and low tension environments to explore, craft, build, and just exist in. Also, these games make Josh very angry sometimes.
Joining the discussion this episode is a special guest nerd, Elizabeth Damron, a Cozy game connoisseur, to lend her expertise to the discussion.
