The One Where Dea Forgets About the Taxi Squad

The One Where Dea Forgets About the Taxi Squad

Another week - another episode of the Holy GrAHL brings you all the American Hockey League action to your doorstep! Join our hosts Andrew Rinaldi, Deanna McFeron, and Samantha Wismer as they buy the ticket and take you on the ride of AHL action throughout the week!
First off, the crew at the Holy GrAHL - on behalf of everyone at Field Pass Hockey - express their sincere condolences to the friends and family of Adam Johnson in the wake of the past weekend's terrible tragedy. Sam brings you a message from the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins while the crew talks about the changes coming around the league when it comes to neck protection.
Laval has been The Good, The Bad, and a lot of Ugly early in the season. Joshua Roy won rookie of the month for the Rocket, but the team is still looking for a goaltender with a save percentage north of .851%.
Meep Meep! The Tucson Roadrunners are getting some reinforcements in the way of Carolina prospect Vasily Ponomarev - whose first opponent this weekend will be none other than his former team: the Chicago Wolves. Simple coincidence or something more sinister from the Hurricanes in the wake of the affiliation breakup?
Remember Taxi Squads? Those were a thing, and the crew allows Dea to relive the PTSD of that Frankenstein 2020/2021 season in real-time, even though none of us want to think about that ever again.
As we discuss the friend-shaped Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen and the patience of the Buffalo organization to allow him to grow in Rochester, Andrew turns around to bring that same attitude to Red Wings fans when it comes to Sebastian Cossa and the patience needed for the big goalie to round into his game.
Finally, our crew looks at which of our one win teams - Chicago, San Jose, and Laval - has the best chance to join the club of deuces and get their second win of the season in an action-packed weekend coming up!

    America's Team

    America's Team

Week three of American Hockey League action and the Holy GrAHL is back with an all-new episode! Join your hosts Samantha Wismer, Deanna McFeron, and Andrew Rinaldi for all the action around the league and around the world.
The crew starts out by covering the past weekend's action: Andrew comes down from the mountains of Colorado to talk about the Griffins/Eagles series from 10,000 feet.
Early on this season, it's been the Joshua Roy show in Laval. The rookie has been lighting up the score sheet and Deanna gives us some insight as to what he's been able to bring to the Rocket the first month of the season.
As players are called up and sent down, the crew gets to wondering why assignments from the NHL to the AHL are viewed as career-detrimental demotions. What needs to happen to change the perspective?
While the Chicago Wolves declare their independence like it's 1776, while the Hartford Wolfpack start off the season hot and while the Detroit Lions capture the heart of the country, the GrAHL crew discuss what it takes to become America's Team.
The crew also takes a look at the San Diego Gulls and San Jose Barracuda: two Pacific Division teams coming off less-than-optimal seasons and off to less-than-optimal starts. What do they have to do to get away from their less-than-optimal play on the ice?
Wrapping up the week's show, the crew takes a look at the action ahead this weekend. Grand Rapids finally gets off to its divisional schedule, while David in Springfield takes on the early season Goliath in Hartford. Are we going to flip scripts or follow patterns as we head into the Halloween weekend?
Speaking of Halloween - what is our crew's plans for costume parties this weekend? The answer may surprise you.
Finally - individual goal songs were released for the Griffins. Who's got the best taste on the team? Biggest banger after a beauty goal? Tune in this weekend to the Griffins' home games to find out!

Second Verse, Same as the First

Second Verse, Same as the First

And we're off! The American Hockey League season is finally underway and with it: the crew at the Holy GrAHL is back to bring you all the action of opening weekend. Join Andrew Rinaldi, Samantha Wismer, and Deanna McFeron in the first in-season episode of the season!
First off - the crew recaps the games of the weekend following their beats. The Griffins are kings of the Central castle in weekend one, while Laval and Chicago got walked like a dog in their opening weekends.
Deanna finds herself in a life or death struggle that has all of us questioning: is any of this real or are we all just in the Matrix?
The Chicago Wolves got off to a rocky start without their #1 goaltender Keith Kinkaid in net. Deanna explains how the Wolves netminder is good at blocking more than pucks going to the net.
The feel-good story of the week was also on everyone's mind: the San Diego Gulls - the AHL's punching bag for the last year - won both of their games this weekend, already climbing up to 1/10th of last season's win total. Is 2023/24 going to be the Gulls' revenge tour?
While we're on revenge tours: Matthew Phillips graduated from the cage in the Calgary organization to the NHL, where he got his first NHL goal against that very Calgary organization that didn't give him a real shot with the Flames. Revenge never tasted so sweet.
The crew wraps up with AHL franchises that don't make sense (looking at you, Bridgeport Islanders) and with a special guest appearance from Maple the Corgi our hosts look for the next franchise that DOES make sense.
Finally: let's take a look at the games coming up this weekend! Andrew has his eyes set on Colorado, not only to provide top quality AHL hockey but also for an escape into the mountain trails. We hope there are no bears waiting for him.

Fun and easy listen

Hosts have great chemistry and this is fun to listen to. Not pretentious like other AHL podcasts and makes the sport easy to understand.
