The Knee Jerks Podcast - Bob Page orders you off his lawn The Knee Jerks Podcast - Eno, Nick and Big Al

    • Sports

Detroit sports bloggers and podcasters Greg Eno and Big Al Beaton are The Knee Jerks!
Legendary Detroit and NYC broadcaster Bob Page is always welcome on the show. He returns this week for a victory lap, having predicted Detroit Tigers' GM Al Avila would be given the ziggy before the end of the season. We didn't think it would happen, but as usual, Bob was proven right.
We also discuss with Bob the current and future state of the Tigers and Detroit sports in general, get his thoughts on  the Red Wings' off season and the media and fan hype around the Lions appearing on HBO's Hard Knocks, along with their long history of dysfunction.  We also touch on the state of the teams in Bob's current backyard - the Mets, Yankees and Nets.
On the second half of the show, topics include:
The Tigers have spent the last 7 years spinning their wheels, going nowhere.
For a charter member of the American League with supposedly a rich history, the Tigers have had long, long stretches of irrelevancy.
The Tigers also have a sordid history when it comes to their inability to develop position players.
The Miguel Cabrera situation has become untenable, as he's hitting like a modern day Ray Oyler. The team's options are limited and entirely dependent on whatever Miggy agrees to do.
RIP John B. Wockenfuss. Detroit sure loves their gritty, role playing bench players...and we're no exception.
The Lions season of Hard Knocks has been exceptional entertainment. But keep in mind Hard Knocks is not a documentary, it's an NFL approved reality show designed to put a shine on the featured team and staff.
Remember, in 31 other training camps teams are doing most of the same things the Lions are being highlighted doing.
There is one incontrovertible fact - NFL Films are amazingly good at their jobs.
We also play the Birthday Game and name our Jerk of the Week.
Al will be out of town in early September, so we will not be able to record our next show until the middle of the month. We appreciate your patronage and patience.
