South Africa Beat England but Australia Qualify For the Semi Finals | T20 World Cup Review

Australia beat the West Indies and South Africa beat England as the aussies go through to the semi final of the T20 World Cup on Net run rate.

    6 SAT
Australia v West Indies, Abu Dhabi (10:00 GMT)
Australia went in to their final group game unchanged and they claimed another win that was a relative cruise for the Aussies, winning by 8-wickets thanks in large part to a superb 89* for David Warner, as he got them over the line and past the 158 target in just 16.2 overs. The Windies put up a total of 157/7 with captain Kieron Pollard top scoring with 44 off 31, whilst Evin Lewis hit 29 and Shimron Hetmyer 27. Josh Hazlewood led the Aussie bowling attack with his 4/39 with a wicket each for Mitch Starc, Pat Cummins and hero of their last outing, Adam Zampa. The reply was ruthless as David Warner led the way with his 56 ball 89. Mitch Marsh also showed his stuff with 53 off 32. Akeal Hossain and Chris Gayle claimed the 2 wickets.
The Aussies finished the group with 4-wins and had to then had to wait for the outcome of the England/South Africa result as it would come down to NRR if SA were to record a win against leaders England…

England v South Africa, Sharjah (14:00 GMT)
So, despite SA claiming a brilliant 10-run win over England, their NRR was just not good enough as they missed out on qualifying for the semi-finals, being pipped by Australia in to 2nd place after both finished on 8-points, England also finished with 8-points but kept hold of the top spot.
After Moeen Ali grabbed the early wicket of Reeza Hendricks, it looked good for England but enter Rassie van der Dussen, who struck a fantastic unbeaten 94 off just 60 balls. Quinton de Kock hit 34 whilst Aiden Markram supported van der Dussen brilliantly with another wonderful ½ century for Markram – this one 52 off 25. Only Moeen Ali and Adil Rashid took a wicket for England.
In reply, England made a solid start but Jason Roy had to retire hurt on 20 shortly before fellow opener Jos Buttler went for 26 off 15, ct Bavuma off the bowling of Anrich Nortje. Bairstow came and went but the middle order of Moeen Ali (37 off 27), Dawid Malan (33 off 26) and Liam Livingstone (28 off 17) also kept the chase alive, as did skipper Eoin Morgan (17 off 12) but SA kept chipping away and England just could not get a partnership going long enough to get them over the line and finished the 20-overs just 10-runs short, finishing on 179/8. Credit must go to the SA bowling attack with Shamsi grabbing 2/24, Rabada claiming an expensive 3/48 and Dwaine Pretorius taking 2/30 off his 3.

Despite the defeat, England will be satisfied with their efforts as they held onto top spot and go through to the semi’s as Group A winner.
