Full Interview: Senator Paula Simons
Welcome to the Political Trenches: Local Government At Work.
Our guest today is Alberta Senator Paula Simons
Senator Simon has been at the forefront of an important Senate inquiry into the role and place of municipalities in our confederation.
In December of 2021, Senator Simons launched a formal Senate inquiry to address the numerous challenges, opportunities, and constraints faced by Canada's municipalities, both large and small.
According to the Senator, ‘Our cities and towns are on the front lines of many critical issues, yet they often lack the necessary funding and political power to effectively manage the responsibilities that have been increasingly downloaded to them.”
This year, she, along with some of her Sena te colleagues, have held a series of roundtable discussions to address the important issues facing our municipalities including Infrastructure funding, Emergency Prepardness, and Social Issues.
With that Senator, Welcome to the Show.
