#11 Unplugging men from the Matrix - Watene Waegna

Today I invite a special friend of mine back in front of the mic, we discuss how you can begin to disconnect from fear and the matrix as a dad, why it’s crucial for dads to be able to distinguish between perception and reality, the need to be able to talk about our problems with others in our healing journey, why it’s crucial to avoid constantly blaming ourselves and instead practice forgiving ourselves for all of our flaws, and why it’s important to express your shame, love, and remorse while also taking responsibility for it all.

We go into better understanding that maintaining the joy and playful aspects that drove our younger years and how they are pivotal in having a healthy and enjoyable adult life. Wa touches on how this can not only fill your cup but allow you to be a better father, husband, partner or employee to everyone around you.

We go deep talking about the trap of boyishness in a culture that doesn’t train us in masculinity, performative masculinity versus internalized, purposeful masculinity, insights from his own journey in faith, taking full responsibility for your life, forgiving your father, how to actually lead your wife as a strong husband, getting things done, dropping expectations, and serving your family because it’s the RIGHT thing to do, and how to ask men for true accountability.

#7 How are you showing up as a father - Watene Waegna

Watene is a devoted dad, a man that stepped into father hood at the age of 17. Widely recognized as a leader in the space of mental health and self awareness, we go deep on the topic of parenting and how his children have been his biggest teacher. He openly shares how he is constantly having to navigate the old stories we play of parenting we most know. We share the importance of choosing to have fun during your children's activities rather than viewing is as a chore. The 'why' as parent's it's crucial we lower our eyes and let go of the need for the generational "my way or the highway' rules of engagement approach. Touching on the benefit of being a parent with a growth mindset and level of self awareness, while actively modeling this for your children is so important for development and social conditioning.
