The Difference Between Coffee and Solidarity (Part 1)

The Difference Between Coffee and Solidarity (Part 1)

During this episode, hosts Secunda Joseph & Luke Brawner discuss the origins of both The Relay and its partnership with Project Curate and introduce the shows reimagined roundtable format. Guests Jessica Davenport, Cleve Tinsley and Rachel Schneider sit down with Secunda to interrogate the common idea that if we all “just get along,” the issues of racism and inequity will be solved. As we question and challenge empty calls for diversity and reconciliation, we also consider what substantive, intentional relationships across social difference look like and what they make possible in struggles for justice and social transformation.

Thank you

Thank you for the grace extended to offer these critical intimate discussions to be shared with those who need to hear these discussions. Many people need to hear these podcasts because they don’t yet have authentic friendships with people who don’t look like them, but they are seeking to build those relationships.

You are providing important information while modeling behavior that others can use to create new friendships.

We are all interconnected, like it or not, so the ability to communicate with those living in shared spaces is essential to the health and well-being of our community cluster. If you cannot yet communicate, find a community translator.

A Must Listen and Re-listen

Conversations about justice, anti-racism, white supremacy, anti-racism, faith, and community requires humility, nuance, honesty, raw yet appropriate vulnerability, and laughter. Secunda Joseph and Luke Brawner make a sacred space where healing conversations take place, where raw stories are shared, and where all of us are invited (compelled?) to live into a more just world.

I am thankful that this space exists, as a religious leader, as a Latinx human, as a hopeful dreamer, justice seeker, and believer that only in “la lucha” (the struggle) can we find life again.

Half the time I hear an episode start... I hit stop

I do this because this is an amazing podcast. It deserves my complete attention. I’m sitting at work with a backlog of planet money or JJHO and when they run out my backlog of The Relay starts. That is when I hit stop, because I want to hear every word. I want to hear every intonation. I don’t want to miss any of the subtly of the conversation. I don’t want to miss it because it is one of the most important conversations that needs to had in America today. Secunda Joseph and Luke Brawner let us all be a part of this open, transparent, and some times very difficult discussion. Thank you both.
