Justin Roethlingshoefer: The Power of Taking Ownership

Justin Roethlingshoefer: The Power of Taking Ownership

Growing up Justin was an athletic, but overweight kid who had an immense joy and love for sports.
As he entered his teenage years and started training for hockey, he began losing weight and received a lot of applause and recognition from his peers, instead of the usual criticism and bullying he had been experiencing.
These positive affirmations about his appearance led Justin to a near fatal battle with anorexia, depriving his body of proper nutrition for years in an effort to avoid gaining back the weight.
During our conversation Justin shares many valuable and meaningful lessons he’s learned on his journey from anorexia and how he found strength in vulnerability.
We talk about everything from realizing your self-worth, when to trust others, overcoming insecurity, doubt, the power behind taking ownership and the freedom that comes from speaking up for what you believe in.
Today Justin coaches NHL stars, Fortune 500 executives and entrepreneurs looking for holistic health solutions to improve their lives. This is one of my favorite episodes so far, he shares so many incredible lessons we can all learn from - you don’t want to miss this one.
    ABOUT JUSTIN
After completing his MS in Sports Performance and Human Biology, Justin sought out post-graduate work in functional medicine. His 15-year career as a performance director in the NHL and NCAA, prepared Justin Roethlingshoefer for entrepreneurship after realizing that the holistic health solutions he had found a personalized solution to was just not an athlete problem but a human problem.
He founded Own It in 2021 and has become a multiple seven-figure coaching company that applies this health and performance philosophy to clients ranging from NHL stars, to Fortune 500 executives, to entrepreneurs looking to take that next step and realize true health. From sleeping better to mental clarity, reduced anxiety, and increase in energy, he and his team have been providing n=1 solutions for over 10 thousand people the last 2 years.
He’s also the creator of the Own It App, which provides simple data collection, meaningful insights, and personalized plans to help users OWN their habits and improve recovery, health, and performance.
Justin has spoken at dozens of events, including the TEDx stage. He’s the host of the Sports Science and Recovery Podcast and The Own It Show.

Kim Vargas: How She Found Courage, Strength and Grace Through the Unexpected

Kim Vargas: How She Found Courage, Strength and Grace Through the Unexpected

You may know Kim Vargas as the wife of Pete Vargas, owner of Advance Your Reach. We have become close friends over the last couple of years and I knew I wanted to share her unbelievable story on the show.
This episode is going to feel a little different than previous episodes - it is the most intimate conversation I’ve had so far.
Despite the unbelievable hardships and challenges Kim has faced in her life, there is a confidence about her that I admire and a quiet strength she holds that is truly remarkable.
In this episode, we dive deep into the details of some of the many challenges she and Pete have faced including her Lupus and Rheumatoid Arthritis diagnosis and the impact it had on her daily life in her early 20’s, the journey to grow her family through adoption, unexpected heartbreak she and her husband faced and a stroke that nearly ended her life.
Kim has such a sense of peace and calmness about her that most people lose when they are put through trying times. She has not let it harden her heart and her wisdom and experience shared in our discussion around perspective, hope and gratitude is something everyone needs to hear.
    ABOUT KIM
Kim Vargas is a wife, mother of four and co-owner with her husband, Pete Vargas. She resides in Colorado and enjoys traveling. Her life has been a roller coaster of twists and turns and although some moments have made her want to scream for joy and others have made her want to throw up and run as far as away as possible - she would hop back on and ride it again. She’s an inspiration to so many women and is a shining light of love and kindness in every room she is in.

Kelly Ruta: Finding Strength While Battling a Chronic Illness

Kelly Ruta: Finding Strength While Battling a Chronic Illness

Kelly Ruta has been a licensed therapist for over two decades and although she has the skills to manage many of the challenging things we face in life, nothing could have prepared her for the hardship she has faced over the past 4 years.
In 2020, Kelly got Covid and believed that after a few weeks of quarantine and some over-the-counter medications she would be back to normal. She never imagined that 4 years later her body would still be suffering from the virus.
In this episode, we talk about what life as a therapist battling a chronic illness is really like, the effect it had on her family dynamic and the unexpected blessings she found along the way.
We discussed everything from mindset to practicing gratitude to building a book of evidence, finding the strength to surrender to the unknown and how to choose your hard.
Kelly shares what helped her get through some of the darkest times in her life and helped shape her into a stronger and more resilient person.

    ABOUT KELLY
Kelly Sullivan Ruta is a seasoned clinical psychotherapist of two decades who made a leap into the coaching world to help entrepreneurs create an ultimate inner operating system for rapid scaling without rapid breakdown.
Kelly believes entrepreneurs are perfectly positioned to create a massive positive impact on the planet. But she also knows that no strategy, plan, or tactic will ever outperform one’s mindset, limiting beliefs, conditioned programs, or habits. She is obsessed with helping entrepreneurs and their teams do deep inner work, including building Emotional Agility as a power skill.
Kelly is a hardcore introvert, Starbucks addict, 9 Quickstart and Enneagram 8. Her soul calls the beach home. When she isn’t working, she’s hanging with her ride-or-die besties, has her head in a book or is with her husband and two (mostly grown) sons.

Chris Webb: When Speaking Up Was the Difference Between Life & Death

Chris Webb: When Speaking Up Was the Difference Between Life & Death

Police Officers witness the worst of humanity every day.
They hardly have time to process some of the horrific things they’ve just seen before they’re off to their next call.
Over time, in order to cope with the evil they interact with, they shove down the trauma deep inside and never talk about it.
In fact, talking about it isn’t safe, because they could lose their jobs if their peers or boss thinks they’re not mentally tough.
So they find other ways to numb the feelings. Numb the pain. Numb the trauma.
This doesn’t only happen to law enforcement. We all experience this in one way or another.
Ignoring it doesn’t make it go away though.
It continues to fester… until some day, you’re forced to face it. And by that time, it’s often ruined many parts of your life.
If you’ve ever been afraid to speak up to a boss, a friend, or a spouse about an internal suffering that you’re carrying, I invite you to listen to this episode with Chris Webb.
It just might set you free.

    ABOUT CHRIS
Chris Webb was born in Dallas Texas and graduated Baylor University in 1994. In 1997 he joined the Dallas Police Department as a Patrol Officer and served in this role for 10 years. He continued his career as a SWAT Officer for another 10 years before retiring in 2007. Today he serves as a State Police Officer for the Texas Attorney General's Office in the Fugitive Apprehension Unit.
He’s married to Judge Rainey Webb, Criminal Court Magistrate and they have 18 year old twins Gibson and Gabby. In 2019, he and his wife founded Righteous Oaks Retreats, a 3-day retreat for current and former law enforcement officers to seek counseling to combat the internal and external pressures of their profession.
