Churches don’t hurt people, people hurt people – Ep 8

Churches don’t hurt people, people hurt people – Ep 8

Brad interviews Blake Ramage about his experiences with Church. Blake has experienced the good, the bad and ugly, and still believes that the Church - as it's meant to be - can be the hope of the world. Blake shares personal stories of his time as an employee of the church, and we follow on from the discussion around why millennials are leaving church and faith, and how he tries to support those who are disappointed with their idea of God is, and who are wrestling with big questions of faith and life. Blake agrees that Church for many hasn't always been a good place to discuss these things, but would love to see that change.

What Baby Boomers can teach us - Ep 7

What Baby Boomers can teach us - Ep 7

I talk to Gen Xer Frank about a range of topics including: Suicide, why he thinks Millennials need to get over ourselves, why Millennials are similar to Gen X, what we can learn from older generations and how technology allows a platform for expressing existential angst.

There were some stats out recently in NZ that show Suicide rates continuing to rise, with 606 people killing themselves in the last year. Frank talks a bit about his own journey on this topic, and we discuss why in a western world full of affluence things aren't always rosy in our inner worlds.

Frank also mentions a few other podcasts worth checking out!

Why Millennials Leave Faith pt 1 - Episode 5

We go another round and discuss a topic that has continued to be blogged about, and mused over for years, but one that opens a whole can of worms all the same. Why are youth leaving organised religion in such large numbers today? How can we be sure of anything in 2017 that claims to have exclusive claims on reality? Brad Mills interviews Nigel Cottle who did his Master's degree on this very question, and who has been involved in the Baptist church in Auckland for over 20 years. Sam Burrows also joins the live chat, and shares his story of being a leader of a large group of Christian young adults, and then leaving it all behind. In this episode we discuss church as a business, avocado on toast, and why us pesky Millennials just like to complain and question everything so much!
