S1E19 - The Fellowship of the Suffering
In this episode, the guys chat about the following questions and ideas:
0:30 - In 1 Corinthians 12:12-13, 26-27, the apostle Paul describes how the body of Christ-followers is made up of many members. For Paul, if one of us celebrates, all of us celebrate. And if one of us suffers, all of us suffer. 1:44 - For the guys, logistical and cultural factors often break this divine pattern of Christians suffering together. Instead of going to our church family when we suffer, it’s common for us to withdraw because we possibly feel like we are suffering because there is something wrong with us. The problem is, the more we stay away from our church family, the more we feel we should stay away from our church family.6:26 - So how should the people of God respond to suffering? For the guys, when others suffer, we are called not just to accept them, but to run towards them. And when we suffer, we are called likewise, to run towards our church family. We, the people of God, are not called to fix others’ problems as much as it is to suffer alongside others.*

Huh? Confess For What??
In this episode, the guys chat about the following questions and ideas:
0:30 - In Psalm 51 and James 5:13-16, the author describes the life of one who follows Jesus as one that may be filled with sin, but one that is redeemed and transformed through the Christian discipline of confession. 2:03 - Confession is a word that might be uncomfortable for many of us. It makes us feel dirty and small, and in some Christian traditions, feels like it might only be reserved for a public display of repentance for ‘big’ sins. But for the people of God, confession has always held an crucial place in following Him. Today, confession similarly holds a crucial place the our following of His Son Jesus. We confess our sins, big or small, because we are broken, and because we need healing. We confess not only our sins to our God, but also our belief in Him. And we are blessed to be able to confess through the words of the Psalms, which capture the rawness and authenticity of the human condition.5:15 - So does confession transform us as God’s people? What would it look like if we were a confessing people? For the guys, confession transforms the people of God into a community that is safe, trusting and loving towards broken people, such as ourselves. Only when we become a confessing people do we experience the healing and resurrection unto new life that Jesus offers.*

S1E17 - Great Is Thy... Dependability?
In this episode, the guys chat about the following questions and ideas:
0:30 - In Mark 9:14-24, we read of how a father of pleads with Jesus to heal his demon-possessed son after his disciples are unable to do so. Before he heals the boy, Jesus identifies this father as one amongst a “faithless (Gk. apistos) generation”, and declares that “all things are possible for one who believes (Gk. pisteuo)”, to which the father cries “I believe (Gk. pisteuo); help my unbelief (Gk. apistia)!” 2:22 - So what does this passage show us about how YHWH is a faithful God? For the guys, Jesus’ continued presence in the gospel story despite the peoples’ repeated disbelief parallels YHWH continued presence in the Hebrew Bible despite Israel’s repeated unfaithfulness. Throughout the story of scripture, YHWH has demonstrated that he is a dependable God who will always there for them. The people of Israel, on the other hand, have been “faithless” – not because they did not believe that YHWH was God, but because they pursued other gods as well. They did not keep their promises to YHWH. Faith then, is not primarily about how much one believes in the existence of God, or one’s religious piety. It is about whether we can be depended upon to keep our promises.6:30 - Who does the faithfulness of YHWH call us to become? For the guys, this passage calls us to respond to YHWH by becoming people whom you can count on to keep our promises – and to not trust Him just because He says so, but because He has shown Himself time and again to be a God who is dependable!*

S1E16 - There's No English Word For This Love
In this episode, the guys chat about the following questions and ideas:
0:30 - In Ephesians 2:1-10, we read of how YHWH demonstrated his ‘hesed’, or steadfast love, by sending His Son Jesus to bring life to a world of death in His rich mercy, and in the great love with which he loved us. Such a love is so unusual, there isn't an English word (or even a Greek one!) that can adequately capture the meaning of the Hebrew word 'hesed'. 2:38 - So what does this passage about YHWH sending Jesus to humanity reveal to us about His character? For the guys, this passage reveals to us that the YHWH is a sacrificial God who gives us who He loves, because of His steadfast love for us. YHWH is also a generous God who sticks by this hesed for an undeserving people in Israel, and extending that love even further unto all the nations. Surely YHWH didn’t have to do that, did He?7:29 - Who does the steadfast love of YHWH call us to become? For the guys, this passage calls us to respond to YHWH and the family and friends whom He has blessed us with in the same kind of steadfast love that He first showed us, even when we were undeserving. It is through our lives of hesed that YHWH purposes to bring life into a world a death! *

S1E15 - Wait, Jesus Got... Angry???
In this episode, the guys chat about the following questions and ideas:
0:30 - In John 2:13-22, we read of how Jesus, YHWH-in-the-flesh, is cleanses the temple with “zeal”, or anger. Right off the cuff, this does not seem like the Jesus who preaches love and forgiveness at all! What’s got into him? Why is he so angry? And what does his anger tell us about his character, and the character of his Father?2:47 - So what does this story about Jesus getting angry reveal to us about the who he is? For the guys, this passage reveals to us that the quality of being holy or ‘set-apart’ is incredibly important to Jesus. But through the story of the Bible, the people of Israel keep making themselves unholy or ‘common’. And so, this moment of Jesus’ anger and judgment in John 2 has been a thousand years in the making, revealing YHWH’s slowness to anger and forgiving nature in judgment.7:27 - What does this story reveal to us about the nature of humanity, and what kind of people does it call us to become? For the guys, this story tells a tragic tale of how humanity tends to take what has been made holy by YHWH and make it common. It also calls us to become people who do not reject anger that is motivated by the desire for holiness, but to become people who yearn to be slow to anger, because we desire even more, the compassion, the graciousness, the steadfast love and the faithfulness of YHWH.*
