The Thaw Arrives, Everything was Cancelled, Pudwill on Refs

We're back after an extraordinary week, one in which multiple water polo events were cancelled, including our show, which succumbed to multiple and unpredictable power outages. We talk about the week that was, chopping wood, wearing winter clothing indoors, boiling water (oh yeah, we didn't actually talk about that sad fact), and a glancing reference to the Olympics where the US women should be favored for gold and, according to us, the US men ended up in the preferred bracket.

Plus, plans for the upcoming high school season including Joe's conversation with Justin Pudwill about big changes in refereeing this spring.

Texans Excel in NCAA Competition, Can 'Roos Women go Undefeated, and Joe Gets a Package

Texans Excel in NCAA Competition, Can 'Roos Women go Undefeated, and Joe Gets a Package

Austin College's first weekend slate of games against Air Force didn't end the way they'd prefer. They now fly to Colorado Springs to face Cal Baptist and the Falcons again this weekend.

Meanwhile, Texans ripped it up across the country from Fresno, to Thousand Oaks, to the East Coast, as the NCAA season begins in its own strange, atrophied way.

The high school season is near, more on the Texas Coaches' Academy, an icy Wednesday practice in Round Rock, and Joe receives a package mid-podcast.

'Roos are Back, Preps are Near, James is Older

For there not being a lot going in in the water polo world there's... quite a bit going on.

For one, the collegiate season, in its truncated form, has kicked off. Austin College men return to the pool versus Air Force this weekend after a slate of games in California where Texans showed their stuff.

And the high school season is nearly here. Joe talks with TISCA Chairman Scott Slay about how the uncertain season will proceed.

Plus, news from USA Water Polo's Assembly, a passing reference to barbecue, and James got older last week.

Spring Scheduling, High School Ramps Up, Joe Relocates (Again)

Spring Scheduling, High School Ramps Up, Joe Relocates (Again)

    We're back!

Joe moved (again) and abandoned the show for a couple weeks. But he's returned with news of a spring water polo season soon to get underway.

Plus updates on the Dare to Dream Tournament, ODP past and future, changes in leadership for the Southwest Zone, speculation on the Olympics in Tokyo, and some referee news.

All that and an interview with... no one.

Looking Back at and Gladly Turning the Page on 2020

Looking Back at and Gladly Turning the Page on 2020

In a year like no other for the entire globe, but also for our resilient Texas water polo community, we close the book on the dreadful 2020 reminiscing about two and a half normal months followed by endless efforts to make things as normal as reasonable during a pandemic.

From a truncated high school season, to tentatively getting back in the pool, leading the nation in hosting age group competition, and finishing with a flurry of masked tournaments, the year was full of unforgettable firsts and, hopefully, lasts.

Then we share nuggets of pop culture gold with the best, and less than best, TV and movies, some of which were actually from 2020.

With gratitude for your support and with best wishes for the new year.

    Happy Holidays. It's Tony Azevedo!

    Happy Holidays. It's Tony Azevedo!

Happy Holidays and Merry Christmas to everyone! Since y'all have been good this year, Texas water polo fans, our gift to you is a conversation with the legendary Tony Azevedo (even though it's now four days after Christmas. We've been busy).

In a very frank discussion Tony opines on the state of the USA Men's program (there's not much critique to be had for the world's best senior women's team), delves in to the shortcomings and strengths of American athletes, and talks about what he's trying to accomplish along with Maggie Steffens at 6-8 Sports. And much more in this extended interview.

Plus, Joe and James discuss the upcoming (now passed) Christmas day celebration, and queue up a year end discussion coming this week.

    Happy New Year!
