Here are the bible verses quoted in today's episode:

JOHN 3:16 “God loved the people of this world so much that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who has faith in him will have eternal life and never really die.”

The 4 types of love in Ancient Greek that appear in the Bible:

EROS Pronounced: AIR-ohs - romantic love - 1 COR 7:5 There isn’t much in the bible about this and what is there is not relevant for this podcast! So let’s move on!

STORGE Pronounced: STOR-jay - familial love - ROMANS 12:10, “Love each other as brothers and sisters.” As family. Parents and their child. Between siblings. Grandparents. Natural affection due to being related. With God as our heavenly Father, people who believe in Jesus are family. Not like family, actual family!

PHILIA Pronounced: FILL-ee-uh - strong friendship/intimate love, personal, dear, care, compassion, affection - JOHN 13:35 “If you love each other, everyone will know that you are my disciples.”

AGAPE Pronounced: Uh-GAH-pay - God’s love for humankind. Perfect, unconditional, sacrificial, pure. Selfless. Heroic. It is not about feelings but about actions. JOHN 3:16 “God loved the people of this world so much that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who has faith in him will have eternal life and never really die.”

    PHILIPPIANS: Jesus' Humble Birth

    PHILIPPIANS: Jesus' Humble Birth

Jesus lived in Heaven with God before coming to earth. What was coming to earth like? Humbling for sure, and not just because he was born to ordinary parents, placed in a manger and visited by lowly shepherds. It was humbling because he lost his high status! But did he think it was worth it? Tune in to find out!

Here are the bible verses quoted in today's episode:Bible Passage: Philippians 2:5-11

    Christ was truly God.
But he did not try to remain    equal with God.

Instead he gave up everything    and became a slave,
when he became    like one of us.

    Christ was humble.
He obeyed God and even died    on a cross.

Then God gave Christ    the highest place
and honored his name    above all others.

So at the name of Jesus    everyone will bow down,
those in heaven, on earth,    and under the earth.

And to the glory    of God the Father
everyone will openly agree,    “Jesus Christ is Lord!”

    Today's Questions:

How has today’s episode changed the way you see the nativity story of Jesus’ birth?
Does Jesus’ humility, when he gave up his high position in heaven, spur you on to be more humble and how?

Here are the bible verses quoted in today's episode:

    Bible Passage: Philippians 4:4

“Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! Always be gentle with others. The Lord will soon be here. Don't worry about anything, but pray about everything.”

    Bible Passage: Hebrews 13:5

Don't fall in love with money. Be satisfied with what you have.

    Bible Passage: 1 Timothy 6:7-8

We didn't bring anything into this world, and we won’t take anything with us when we leave. So we should be satisfied just to have food and clothes.

    Bible Passage: Ecclesiastes 6:9

It's better to enjoy what we have than to always want something else, because that makes no more sense than chasing the wind.

    Bible Passage: 2 Corinthians 11:23-28

I have worked harder and have been put in jail more times. I have been beaten with whips more and have been in danger of death more often.

Five times my own people gave me 39 lashes with a whip. Three times the Romans beat me with a big stick, and once my enemies stoned me. I have been shipwrecked three times, and I even had to spend a night and a day in the sea. During my many travels, I have been in danger from rivers, robbers, my own people, and foreigners. My life has been in danger in cities, in deserts, at sea, and with people who only pretended to be the Lord's followers.

I have worked and struggled and spent many sleepless nights. I have gone hungry and thirsty and often had nothing to eat. I have been cold from not having enough clothes to keep me warm. Besides everything else, each day I am burdened down, worrying about all the churches.

    Bible Passage: Philippians 4:11-13

I am not complaining about having too little. I have learned to be satisfied with whatever I have. I know what it is to be poor or to have plenty, and I have lived under all kinds of conditions. I know what it means to be full or to be hungry, to have too much or too little. Christ gives me the strength to face anything.

    Today's Questions:

Imagine you were Paul and put in jail. How would you feel? Do you think you might sing praises in the cell, or do you think you might do something else?
What do you think you need to do in order to feel complete peaceful happiness?

Here are the bible verses quoted in today's episode:

    Bible Passage: Philippians 4:8-9

Finally, my friends, keep your minds on whatever is true, pure, right, holy, friendly, and proper. Don't ever stop thinking about what is truly worthwhile and worthy of praise.

Whatever you have learned or received or heard from me, or seen in me—put it into practice. And the God of peace will be with you.

    Bible Passage: Colossians 3:1-2

Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things.

Here are the bible verses quoted in today's episode:

    Bible Passage: Philippians 4:4-7

Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! Always be gentle with others. The Lord will soon be here. Don't worry about anything, but pray about everything. With thankful hearts offer up your prayers and requests to God. Then, because you belong to Christ Jesus, God will bless you with peace that no one can completely understand. And this peace will control the way you think and feel.

    Bible Passage: Philippians 3:1

My brothers and sisters, rejoice in the Lord! It is no trouble for me to write the same things to you again, and it is a safeguard for you.

    Today's Questions:

What are some things that you worry about now and what are some things that might worry you in the future?

Pray together now, asking God to take away all your worries on him.
