The World Football Programme Podcast

The World Football Programme has been on air since 1987. The show has grown into an energetic and informative two hours of football news on Saturday mornings between 10-12. To get complete football coverage, the show engages with a handful of local and national guests live every show. The programme is researched, produced and presented by Penny TannerHoath and the team. Penny has played football for state and country. We all coach, play or administrate in the sport and love talking about all aspects of football. Lee Pepper, Walking Football Federation Australia President, The WFFA are one of the six foundation members of the Federation of International Walking Football Associations (FIWFA). We will talk to Lee about the growth of the game, standardising of the national rules and State bodies, challenges facing the sport with player safety and the elite level game. This time last year Kalamunda were on the cusp of promotion, this year they are sitting on top of the State League Div 2, but hot on their heels are East Perth FC. Our guest lineup, all WA times (after some newsworthy football banter by Pen and Pete), is: Robbie Anderson, Perth RedStar FC Head of Communications, shares with us some of the reasons and well laid plans that have made Redstar one of the most successful clubs for both men and women in WA football in recent years. Local leagues close to finishing, Perth Glory are in the last 16 of the Australia Cup, The EPL kicks off this week and the National Schoolboys comp finished this week. Our guest lineup this week, is Kim Hawkins, Perth Glory FRG (Glory 10) Chair. We see what Kim and her team have been up to over the close season. Tony Campbell, State Schoolboys coach. The National State Schoolboys championships held in Perth have concluded. TC had high hopes for his charges, did they live up to his expectations? David Templeman MLA, Member for Mandurah, Minister for Culture & the Arts; Sports and Rec; International Education; Heritage. All things football, we will start with the Olympic football program and work towards WA football. Tony Campbell, Coach WA State Schoolboys programme. We catch up with Tony to talk about our State School sides. How are the teams shaping up? Where is this year's competition being held? How many teams are we sending? How do we shape up to the other states If anyone knows Tony does. David Winkless, President Perth Glory Shed Supporters Club. For the first time in years the Glory are in the final 32 of the Australia Cup, a new coach, a new team with a whole new attitude, things are looking up. Robbie Gaspar joins Penny Tanner Hoath this week in the studio in the lead up to the Olympics and the wash of the Euro 2024. Radio Fremantle raised thousands in our Radiothon last week, so thank you! There’s another chance to support us by coming along to Bunnings Bibra Lake on Saturday and buying a sausage sizzle! Pete Szkiela and Penny will be there on the afternoon shift. Our guest lineup this week, with a heavy women’s football bias. Gareth Morgan, Media Manager, Perth Glory. How are Glory faring in the local NPL competition, is the A League squad finalised, Glory’s first hit out with their new look squad v Armadale was a success. Glory play Brisbane next week in the upcoming Australia Cup round in Darwin. What’s happening in the Glory women’s space regards coach and player appointments? Neil Bennett, Sportswriter. Women’s NPL. Where is it currently sitting in the scheme of the Australian NPL landscape and is it growing in stature, is the community getting on board, is it a good space for fostering and producing state representatives and national level players and bringing the best out of a healthy growth in junior football post WWC? What are the indicators it is a healthy development league sitting at a good semi-professional level. Why is there such huge player movement each year between teams and out of WA? Erin Clout, PFA Head of Player Relations - Women. The role the PFA plays in management and growth of A-League W and the Matildas. Morgan Aquino. The Perth Glory goalkeeper has recently secured a contract at DC Power in the USA and tells us how that came about, why she chose the USA as the next step in her career, where the league sits in the football landscape, what learnings she takes with her from Perth Glory. Jae Pettitt. One of our very own Western Australian Matildas from the 1970’s. Jae tells us about some of the early tournaments and characters in those pioneering days as a Matilda. You may have seen this highly decorated West Australian on the TV promoting the Matildas pre WWC and again in the midst of the 1975 debate. The Olympics is nigh, and we talk up Australia’s chances against group opponents Germany (FIFA rank 4), Zambia and the USA (FIFA rank 5), the lead up to the Tournament and the player movements in and out of the squad that will impact on Australia’s chances.
