Mostly good

Recently discovered and binge listening old version between new releases. (Not dated, so you can do this.) I will keep listening, but Jesse Reklaw (episode 4 co-host) was obnoxious. I’ll skip future episodes with him. All others, so far, are very enjoyable, nostalgic, entertaining, and educational.

Great topic, but could use a more knowledgeable host

A great concept for a podcast, going back to the beginnings of Alternative/Modern Rock. Hearing many old favorite tunes, along with some forgotten gems is great.

I have two problems with the podcast, however. The first is that the host doesn’t seem to have allot of familiarity with the topic, at least when it comes to 80’s and early 90’s alt music (seriously, he admits to never before having heard “Suicide Blonde” by INXS prior to this podcast!). I think it would be better to have a host that lived through these times and remembers most of the music.

My other problem are the guests. The most recent episode with the a member of Los Lobos was excellent. However, too often the host resorts to have no-name friends or even his wife/girlfriend sit in the guest seat. These people have little or no music credibility. And, while Orly sounds like a lovely woman, when she’s on the show, the podcast wavers between sickeningly saccharine as the couple flirt with each other, to downright stupid silly as they laugh at their inside jokes.

While I’ll probably keep listening, as I love the topic and the music, it would be great if a higher level of seriousness and knowledge could be displayed.

Very pleasant surprise

Apple podcasts suggested this to me and I’ve been bingeing for a week. The speakers are knowledgeable, no one is taking themselves too seriously and everyone makes evident their deep fondness for the songs and bands discussed. Wish there were more episodes.
