Cara is a Breath of Fresh Air
I’ll be honest. It was difficult to hear that Daryl left. And Cara was a…bit of an adjustment. But change can be inherently difficult.
I’m so glad I stuck with it. Cara is the addition I didn’t know I needed. It offers even more of a contrast with Mike’s original fandom perspective. Mike is the critical voice and Cara is the “Right, but isn’t liking things fun?!” voice. There is somehow even more love and affection for this 50 year old show.
Cara’s aggressive positivity is infectious and has helped me see not just Trek in a new light, but a lot of pop culture. Entertainment should be fun - that’s why people work SO hard to make it for us. There are always pieces of valid criticism, but try and approach this stuff with the thought that the makers were trying to do their best. Because they are.
Thank you for all of the wonderful podcasting. And thank you for all of your wonderful views on not just Trek, but the world in general.
Prefer this over the rest!
After listening to several different trek podcasts this one is by far my favorite!! The content is great and I appreciate the points of view. My only criticism is the volume is always very low on this podcast. It’s not that way on others but on this one I always have to turn my volume way up to hear, especially during the clips. Other than that it’s amazing! Thanks!!!
This Woke In Trek
I’ve been with them since Episode One, but the recent, constant harping on current events/politics— always from an exquisitely woke, ultra-Progressive perspective— is straining my patience to the extreme. I count people of the Left among my closest friends, but their tendency to “assimilate” every element of pop culture (sports, music, and now Star Trek) in service of their cause is off putting to say the least. Is there no part of our lives that can survive as pure escapism, free from politics? Are people from the Center and the Right no longer welcome among your listeners? Wouldn’t people interested in a good aural bashing of Trump and joyful celebration of “non-binary” actors/characters on TV be better off just listening to a politics podcast? Tune in next time to find out....I’m not sure if I will.
