Insight

I’m not an evangelical Christian, but many people I love in my life are. I think you would be hard pressed to find a more disarming and articulate presentation of core Christian beliefs. With this pod I’m understanding where people I love are coming from, and I find myself pondering the questions Nic and Andy raise throughout the week.

This week I’m thinking about hierarchical relationships of deference and submission that I accept in my life that were previously invisible. And because Nic clarified that such submissions should be voluntary and politically negotiated, I now feel a *little* less judgy about my Christian loved ones who take Paul’s encouragement that wives submit to their husbands seriously. (If my wife asks, please clarify that this is for *other people* who *freely chose to live this way* lol).

I’m also thinking about the disadvantages that Americans face as a body politic when we live in a society that is—across party lines—afraid of hierarchy as a principle rather than a society that focused on reforming existing hierarchies that have become corrupted.
