GoTigers247's Behind Enemy Lines Ep 8: Guerry Smith w/ NOLA.com

GoTigers247's Behind Enemy Lines Ep 8: Guerry Smith w/ NOLA.com

Welcome to Behind Enemy Lines Episode 8.
In this episode we are joined by Guerry Smith, Tulane beat writer for NOLA.com and the publisher of "The Wave Report." Guerry is a lifelong New Orleans resident and has covered the Tulane Green Wave since 2011. Guerry has covered the Tulane Green Wave football team during some pretty up and down years, so we spent quite a bit of time talking about the resurgence that Tulane is experiencing this year. They come into the game against the Tigers with a record of 6-1, 3-0 in the AAC. They picked up enough votes in the AP poll to be ranked #25 for the first time in over twenty years.
Tulane's resurgence can be attributed to the play of quarterback Michael Pratt and running back Tyjae Spears. Tulane also went heavy in the transfer portal this year bringing in ten players that are contributing to the team this year. Maryland transfer wide receiver Dea Dea McDougle has joined Michael Pratt, his high school teammate, and has added another threat to the offense. He has 16 receptions for 187 yards and 1 touchdown. They also boast a highly aggressive defense led by linebackers Dorian Wiliams and Nick Anderson.
Memphis and Tulane have played 37 games against each other in their history, and Memphis owns a lead of 24 wins to 13 losses. Memphis comes into this game with a record of 4-3, 2-2 in the AAC.
Guerry believes the biggest matchup in the game will be if Memphis' wide receivers can stretch the field on the Tulane secondary. He believes that this Tulane team is the best tackling team he has ever seen, and does not believe Memphis will be able to run the ball well against Tulane. Tulane has only given up 30 explosive plays this year, but in their previous week's game against USF, quarterback Jerry Bohanon was lighting up the Tulane secondary. Tulane pulled away in the second half due to an injury to Bohanon. He believes Memphis has the quality quarter in Seth Henigan and tall, physical receivers that could give Tulane a tough matchup.
He expects that if Tulane comes in focused and not overwhelmed by the national attention they have been receiving, the Tigers will have a tough time beating Tulane on the road in New Orleans.

Ti20 Off the Boards: 2023 G Ryan Forrest

Ti20 Off the Boards: 2023 G Ryan Forrest

Penny Hardaway secured his first commitment for the 2023 Class in 3-star guard Ryan Forrest. Ryan is a senior at the newly established Link Academy based out of Branson, Missouri. Ryan originally played for Marion High School in Marion, Arkansas, but made the move to the elite academy during the summer of 2022.
Ryan is a 6'3 shooting guard that plays a physical, aggressive and bouncy game.
Ryan shares with GT247 about his decision to move to Link Academy and how playing with a roster of extremely talented players has already helped him develop his work ethic and game to a different level. Ryan grew up in the Memphis area and has been a fan of the Memphis Tigers for years. He describes the day he received an offer from Penny after an unofficial visit and how excited he was to potentially wear the Tiger uniform in college. He tells GT247 that he didn't allow himself to gloat in receiving the offer, but he was reinvigorated to continue to work hard and get himself ready to play college ball.
Ryan describes himself as a tough, athletic guard who loves to attack the paint and defend hard. His mentality towards defense is that he takes pride in shutting other players down and frustrating them. He sees the Memphis style of play as a style that fits his game totally. The speed and space the Tigers employ on the offense end, plus the aggressive team defense is what sold him on accepting the offer to play for Penny Hardaway and the Tigers.

GoTigers247's Tigers on Tap Ep 13: Houston Review/ECU Preview

GoTigers247's Tigers on Tap Ep 13: Houston Review/ECU Preview

Welcome to Tigers on Tap Episode 13.
In this episode TJ and Trey review a horrifying loss to Houston on Friday, October 7th. Memphis was double digits heading into the final five minutes of the game, and Trey and TJ detail ALL the things that had to go perfect for Houston to come back. If the Tigers had made one of those plays go in their favor they could have sealed the game in their favor. Both of the guys were incredibly frustrated by the lack of finishing the Tigers showed against Houston. There were multiple drives that ended with field goals inside the 10-yard line instead of touchdowns, but they both believe the offense showed a different level of creativity in the game. Gabe Rodgers has proven himself to be a successful big playmaker for the Tigers' offense. Both guys are extremely frustrated with the special teams play. Even though Chris Howard kicked multiple field goals for the Tigers, once again the Tigers' kickoff coverage team let them down. Giving up the kickoff return touchdown to Houston in the fourth quarter provided Houston with the confidence it needed to continue to fight. The Tigers rank very low in all of FBS football.
In the second segment, TJ and Trey break down the ECU game. They both believe Memphis and ECU are evenly matched and both teams are coming off heartbreaking losses. ECU comes in the game at 3-3 on the season after dropping an AAC matchup against Tulane 24-9. ECU has a dynamic offense led by QB Holton Ahlers and running back Keaton Williams. The line opened up at -4.5 in ECU's favor. TJ is hopeful that the resurgent Tiger defense can hold the ECU offense at bay. The Tigers' defense has gameplanned well over the past few weeks, and have held their opponent's running games to below 100 yards in those games. TJ and Trey believe that the Tigers' offense can take advantage of an ECU secondary that has given up multiple big plays each game.
TJ expects the Tigers to win 24-17.
Trey expects the Tigers to win 28-24.

GoTigers247's Behind Enemy Lines Ep 7: Stephen Igoe w/ Hoist the Colours

GoTigers247's Behind Enemy Lines Ep 7: Stephen Igoe w/ Hoist the Colours

Welcome to episode 7 of GoTigers247's Behind Enemy Lines.
In this episode, GT247 is joined by Stephen Igoe, the owner/writer for Hoist the Colours, the ECU 247Sports affiliate.
Stephen discusses East Carolina's season so far. East Carolina comes into the game with a record of 3-3. In Week 6, ECU lost to Tulane in New Orleans in their AAC matchup 24-9. Stephen discusses the vibe around the program right now. He describes the players as "pissed off" because of their poor performance in the Tulane game. The ECU team is led by a bunch of veterans, notably QB Holton Ahlers, who came into this year believing that they would contend for a conference championship.
Stephen believes the the ups and downs on the season can be contributed to the up and down nature of the ECU offense. East Carolina is loaded with talented players. We mentioned Ahlers before, but ECU also has a talented running back, Keaton Mitchell, a big rangy receiver in Isaiah Winstead, and a do everything TE in Oklahoma transfer Ryan Jones. Even with such a talented roster, the offense lives and dies by the play of Holton Ahlers. Stephen believes that if Ahlers can limit ill-timed interceptions and make very few mistakes, ECU can beat any team in the AAC.
Stephen believes this game is a must win for both teams. With Memphis coming off a gut-wrenching loss against Houston and ECU losing to Tulane, both teams need to show the ability to bounce back from devastating losses. He believes this game has the ability to set the winner up for success the rest of the season, but will also leave the loser with uncertainty about where to go from the rest of the way.

Best Memphis Tigers source

The absolute best source for Memphis Tigers basketball news and analysis.

They are extremely knowledgeable. No one else who covers the team comes close in terms of giving accurate insight into recruitment. That’s my favorite part of the pod.

Used to be my go to Tigers podcast

This podcast used to be good. Then they stopped talking about basketball, and then they stopped talking about football halfway through the season. Not worth it at all anymore.
