    toddcastcleveland Episode 16: DOUG HOWARD

    toddcastcleveland Episode 16: DOUG HOWARD

In this episode, we interview Doug Howard! Growing up in New Jersey, Doug was introduced to music by his family, of which the craft goes back many ages. Early in his music career he started off as a session musician in the New York circuit. Doug then eventually joined the band Touch - whose second release was produced by, our hero, Todd Rundgren. Upon the album’s completion, Doug resigned from Touch and briefly replaced Kasim Sulton in Todd Rundgren’s Utopia during Kasim’s support tour for his then upcoming solo endeavor. During his tenure in Utopia, which we’ll get into our discussion today - Doug is co-credited for “Feet Don’t Fail Me Now” and “I'm Looking At You But I'm Talking To Myself.” on Utopia’s 1982 Network records release. Upon Kasim’s return, Doug joined The Edgar Winter Group replacing the band’s original bassist in a touring capacity for many years. As well as being a part of TR’s 11 Voice Orchestra during the “A Capella” tour, Doug has been allotted many musical undertakings over his career - much of which we’ll discuss with him.
Catch Doug on his “Nod to Todd” performances this year. The focus of these shows, Doug has put together an evening of songs and stories spotlighting his work co-writing, friendship with Todd and tunes that inspire them both. Currently, these dates are on the east coast and make sure to check them out if you can. We are very excited to share this Toddcast with the affectionately known, “10 minute Utopian” and learn about his musical career and journey with Todd as the collaborator and personal friendship.

toddcastcleveland Episode 13: ELIOT AITKEN INTERVIEW

toddcastcleveland Episode 13: ELIOT AITKEN INTERVIEW

When James and I first met Eliot Aitken - it was at our first and only Rundgren Radio Event in Akron, Ohio. As we were departing the party space Eliot and his wife, Michelle, walked up to us to introduce themselves as we all were clearly in the 1% as the youngest people at the gathering to celebrate the art of the wizard. They told us they were from Scotland, which really put into perspective the reach of Todd’s work - far out of James and I’s circle of listening in our basements drinking beer.

After connecting through social media I began to see into Eliot’s level of fandom for many artists but specifically when I started to notice his name more during the many hours spent scouring TRConnection looking for the Todd nuggets Zack and I thrive on and help us continue our conversation in the Toddcast Cleveland. Though he shares a similar passion for other virtuosos such Joe Satriani, Steve Vai and, of course, Frank Zappa. We gather here to discuss Eliot’s journey with Todd Rundgren and his music, as well as the many places the art and performance has taken him.

Glasys also known as Gil Assayas is an Israeli pianist, synthesist, producer and vocalist who delivers intricate virtuosic keyboard parts, electronic soundscapes and impassioned vocals in one package that combines his many influences including Electronic music, Alternative Rock, Jazz and Classical music.

Since relocating to the United States 5 years ago, GLASYS has been endorsed by major gear manufacturers such as Nord Keyboards, 64 Audio, Sequential and Spectrasonics, and has developed a large social media presence with over two million total video views. Recently, he was discovered by Hip-Hop artist T-Pain on the social site Reddit and the two are currently in collaboration.
GLASYS is also currently touring and collaborating with our hero, Todd Rundgren - having filled in keys for the 2018 Utopia Reunion tour, the 2019 White Album tribute tour with a cavalcade of other artists, and with the upcoming “Clearly Human'' virtual tour

Also close to Zack and I’s hearts has been his reimagining of classic video games tracks such as Ballad of the Windfish from Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening, Marble Gallery from Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, and Kraid’s Lair from Super Metroid.
