TSEP#175 Energy Storage Boom: Global Growth Rates and New Markets up to 2030 The smarter E Podcast

    • Technology

Last year marked a turning point with record additions in the energy storage industry, and the outlook to 2030 is even more impressive. Experts at BloombergNEF forecast annual growth of 27%, with annual additions expected to reach 110 GW or 372 GWh by 2030, more than two and a half times the 2023 installations. This momentum is fueled by targeted subsidies and policy reforms that favor energy storage projects. New markets are opening up around the world that are increasingly relying on energy storage solutions to meet their capacity requirements. The Asia-Pacific region in particular, led by China, is seeing strong growth, accounting for almost half of global access. But what is actually happening deep in the West, in South America, but also in Latin America? We explore this question in this episode with Markus Vlasits, NewCharge Energy and Patricia Tatto, ATA Renewables.

Timeline:

03:13 Overview of the global energy storage market? What are the most important trends and innovations at the moment?

11:27 What is the state of manufacturing in the global energy storage market? How is the market currently structured, how are the locations in Europe and South/Central/North America developing?

23:22 Deep Dive Mexico: How do the political and regulatory frameworks in Mexico influence the energy storage market?

25:17 Deep Dive South America: What are the special features of the energy storage market in South America, particularly in Chile and Brazil?

31:10 Global Technological advances: What new technologies or innovations in energy storage do you find particularly promising?
