127: It's Time To Normalize Period Talk

127: It's Time To Normalize Period Talk

Joining Jill Devine for a second time on the podcast is Victoria Nieveen RD, LDN, IFNCP. She first appeared on Two Kids and A Career in Episode 109: How Her Fertility Struggles Can Help You [https://www.jilldevine.com/podcast/episode/2dd2e08e/109-how-her-fertility-struggles-can-help-you].

    Victoria's Bio:

I am a Functional Nutrition dietitian who specializes in women's health. I graduated from Mizzou with my Bachelor's in Medical Dietetics, and currently a Human Nutrition and Functional Medicine Master's student at the University of Western States. Today, I help women with absent or irregular cycles nourish their bodies and balance their hormones, so that they can conceive. Unlike conventional protocols, I use a whole-body approach and faith-based coaching to help my clients reconnect with their bodies, regulate their cycles, and optimize their fertility. I use my experiences, both personally and professionally, to help women realize their story isn't over yet. God has more in store for them. This means trusting their body again, cultivating a positive relationship with food, achieving their healthy hormone goals, and integrating all forms of wellness into their lives.

Jill invited Victoria back on the podcast to talk about all things related to menstrual cycles. Many women find it's still taboo to talk about their periods or they haven't been properly educated on what a normal cycle looks and feels like. Victoria shared her expertise and advice on this important subject matter.

We are officially kicking off Season 8 of Two Kids and A Career with Episode 126! Jill Devine recorded another solo episode to talk about how she doesn't make New Year's Resolutions, but she does pick a word to focus on for the year. Her word for 2023 is CONSISTENT:

    con·sist·ent

    /kənˈsist(ə)nt/

    adjective

acting or done in the same way over time, especially so as to be fair or accurate.

"the parents are being consistent and firm in their reactions"

unchanging in nature, standard, or effect over time.

"he is their most consistent player this season"

compatible or in agreement with something.

"the injuries are consistent with falling from a great height"

124: Using Her Pregnancy Journey To Help Others

124: Using Her Pregnancy Journey To Help Others

Ann-Christin Villegas is this week's guest on Two Kids and A Career. Her pregnancy journey led her to writing about it. From Ann-Christin:

"Becoming a mother and all the struggles that come with it literally opened a new chapter of my life. I am passionate about empowering other parents to pursue the vision they have for their family without giving into the easy way out and the peer pressure around them. I hope my book is the no-nonsense go-to book when dealing with topics most people shy away from.

Originally from Friedberg, Germany, I reside in Northern Virginia with my husband Luis, two (for now) daughters Mila and Livia and two cats, Pubi and Panta. I am a PMP certified Biotech Engineer and work as a consultant in the pharmaceutical industry. I love to travel, especially to Germany, where I was born and raised. I enjoy cooking and baking, followed closely by eating. I am always up for an adventure and like scuba diving, just not with unexpected Bull Sharks encircling…but that is another story for another time."

She describes her book, "Becoming A Parent [https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0B4PYDRRZ]" as:

"Parenthood: The only place you can experience heaven and hell at the same time. The unsugarcoated guide to help you prepare before birth to your baby's first birthday.

When you find out you will be a parent, you realize you have no idea what you have gotten yourself into. You sway between the confidence of being the best parent to your baby, and self-doubt of failing your little one. It only becomes more daunting as you learn so many things no one ever talked to you about.

When everyone else makes it seem so easy; what does reality actually look like?

*Get an overview of pregnancy, birth, and baby's first year of life

*Find answers to your questions not readily discussed in society

*Feel better prepared for what lies ahead of you

*Find out what matters to you

*Understand how you want to raise your baby and some helpful tips to get you there

*Purposely decide on how you don't want to raise your baby

Becoming A Parent [https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0B4PYDRRZ] helps you reduce the sleepless nights before your baby is born and gives you the motivation and confidence to get through the ups and downs of early parenthood."

Jill Devine and Ann-Christin discuss the book in more detail in this week's guest.

Amy Lang, MA has been a sexual health educator for over 25 years. Surprised by her discomfort with just the idea of talking with her young son about his body, she knew she needed help. Amy did a bunch of research to learn how to talk with kids about bodies and sexuality and realized she could help other parents with this important part of parenting.

In 2006 she started Birds & Bees & Kids [https://birdsandbeesandkids.com/]. With her lively, engaging, and down-to-earth style she helps parents become comfortable and confident talking with their kids.
