We have another great show meeting five wonderful people playing different, yet pivotal roles in this game we love – soccer …We kick off the show with a visit from the chair of United Soccer Coaches API Coaches Community – it’s API Heritage Month – so it was good to catch up with Ashu Saxena … After Ashu, Michael Kodama from the United Soccer Coaches continues to introduce us to amazing member of the Faith Based Coaches Community and that includes the head coach of the Wheaton College Women’s Soccer Team Patrick Gilliam who will run a fascinating book club this summer geared around faith … Our 3rd guest is not a coach – but she is an amazing woman who has found a place where she belongs in soccer as a fan, as a media darling working with the stars of the The Shea Butter Podcast and a person who cares about other people even if they don’t look like her – talking about Eboni Christmas – who also has a great name by the way … Finally – we end the show the way we have been ending a lot of the shows meeting a mentor for the new 30Under30 class – this time we meet a man who has done a little bit of everything in our game and also does a little bit at every Philadelphia Eagles home game – Jason Neumann, who by the way several years back won the esteemed Mike Berticelli Award – Jason is great on today’s show and he sets us up to meet another member of the 30U30 class and now a high school soccer coach at Abilene High School Tiffany Van Hoose.

The Engine That Drives the Sport

There is no greater force in the game of soccer than the influence of coaches. We set the culture for players, spectators (parents), sponsors and administrators and other stakeholders. No six year-old has ever signed up for soccer by them self. From that first encounter, a coach has set the tone for how all involved will view the sport.

A great deal of a coach’s time is spent attending to factors away from the field so that what happens on the field is in the best interest of the players we serve.

United Soccer Coaches podcast and Dean present an engaging glimpse into the myriad aspects of the game that help every coach raise their performance and make us better at what we do. Like United Soccer Coaches, the podcast provides a platform for learning from one another.

Very good podcast

For Parents, you will not get to know US Soccer watching foreign leagues, like EPL, where few if any Americans play, and you won't watching MLS either as that is also mainly foreign players starting. This podcast is a window into the real workings of soccer in the USA where the most of the soccer pitches and facilities are owned - not by clubs or pro teams - but by High Schools and Colleges. Hosted by Dean Linke, who brings a wealth of knowledge and experience and who is always prepared but also allows the disucssion to follow it's own path guided by his own inquisitive nature. Dean's knowledge of college soccer and coaching education is really unparalleled, and getting access to him and his guests via these podcasts is a gift for soccer parents. Keep it going!
