Improving Access to the Outdoors | Inclusive Outdoors Project

Representation is a key piece to making the outdoors a more inclusive and welcoming place. While seeing more diversity in the world of professional athletes helps, it’s equally important to have this diversity in the groups we join in the outdoors. In this episode, Inclusive Outdoors Project founders Sophia Bielsky and Vasu Sojitra discuss the philosophy and mission behind their organization, and how their clinics are helping to shift the perceptions of the outdoor industry.

    Topics covered in this episode:
    • What inspires us to get outside.
    • The importance of inclusive terminology.
    • The power of affinity spaces.
    • Establishing an organization during COVID.

Eager for each next episode

I listen to a lot of podcasts, this one truly shines. The hosts share a delightful humor, the production is great, the guests are wonderful and they have a space in which to tell their story which is much needed. This podcast is truly for everybody, not just the folks who have all the latest gear from REI, not just underrepresented folks, and not just folks who are just beginning to explore the outdoors.

Unlikely Hikers Podcast is a celebration of ongoing personal growth and exploration.

Appalling

I just tried to listen to the “inclusive” episode but it was anything but. This sort of content makes me personally feel nothing but exclusion from a world I love it’s like as long as you’re not white, we want you here.
