Two life-long friends. One black, one white. We talk about random stuff, goings-on in the world, and try to understand why we don't understand. Mainly we discuss how screwed up things are, but with a healthy dose of comedy, pop culture, and off-topic ramblings. (that's the unrelated part. also, we're not related so it's a play on words. we're so clever.)

    Episode 10 - The Hellfighters

    Episode 10 - The Hellfighters

You've probably never heard about The Harlem Hellfighters. They were the only African-American regiment in World War I and became known as some of the most formidable soldiers fighting for the Allied forces. But guess what? The US government wasn't a big fan and despite their heroism, the Hellfighters were treated like garbage. Ato and Chris share the 369th Infantry Regiment's story and discuss its relevance today. Also, they talk about Ed Harris. Because...well, Ed F*ckin' Harris.

Episode 9: Race, Cancel Culture, and Fandom (PART TWO)

Episode 9: Race, Cancel Culture, and Fandom (PART TWO)

This half of the episode continues the conversation about cult-like thinking, the blindspot of privilege, and being a fan in a world full of flawed creators.

And, of course, Ed F***ing Harris.

Episode 9: Cults and Brainwashing (PART ONE)

Episode 9: Cults and Brainwashing (PART ONE)

There's a gross double standard when it comes to black and white protesters. Ato and Chris break down the January 6th assault on the Capitol, and law enforcement's (lack of) reaction to it. And how do cults and groups like Qanon rope people in and then keep them around?
And as always, there are gratuitous mentions of Ed Harris.

Episode 8: The Wrong House (again...)

Episode 8: The Wrong House (again...)

When police raided the home of Anjanette Young two years ago, they were at the wrong house. The body cam footage was only released a few weeks ago and has understandably brought police tactics back into the spotlight. Ato and Chris discuss the situation, the Georgia run-off election, and wrap up 2020.

Angry, frustrated reviewer ,

I wish they were back….

I recently started binge watching Chicago Med and while googling Ato came across this podcast. I listen while cooking and enjoy listening to them chat the way me and my friends do. I wish the podcast didn’t end.

Funny, entertaining and educational!

These two wander through subjects just like my family does at dinner conversations but bring things together at the end. And they make me laugh! Thanks guys for the journey you’re sharing with us.

Honest and Entertaining

In my experience, most friendships of people from different ethnicities tend to just ignore skin color and issues surrounding skin color, but these two lifelong friends (one black, one white) dive into racial issues head-first and honestly. Both clearly have open minds and are truly willing to see things from multiple perspectives while dispelling stereotypes and divisive issues - and having fun at the same time! It's not laser-focused on issues of ethnicity, as both Ato and Chris delve into a wide range of stories from their childhood through today. This only adds to the feeling that you're getting a true look into what brought and kept these two friends together, adding to our understanding of why they are so driven to explore ethnically-sensitive subjects. Their talks are both fun and important; it's a very enjoyable podcast.
