When Ishan Jalill was discovered to be completely blind a few days after his birth, society wrote him off as someone who belonged in an "institution". Nevertheless, Ishan refused to let other people define him. The first born blind person in the world to participate in competitive rowing, Ishan holds a degree in International Relations from the University of Colombo. In his capacity as a disability rights/ governance activist ,Ishan has been featured in various print and electronic media, travelled to many parts of the world (including the UK, South Africa, and Europe),and visited the United Nations Headquarters in New York on multiple occasions.
