Better Making of Men
This episode discusses Vell's hopes of better making of men in American society.
The Good Read for this episode is JAY-Z: Made in America
by Michael Eric Dyson, (Contribution & Foreword by) Pharrell
This book wrestles with the biggest themes of JAY-Z's career, including hustling, and it recognizes the way that he’s always weaved politics into his music, making important statements about race, criminal justice, black wealth and social injustice. As he enters his fifties, and to mark his thirty years as a recording artist, this is the perfect time to take a look at JAY-Z’s career and his role in making this nation what it is today.
In many ways, this is JAY-Z’s America as much as it’s Pelosi’s America, or Trump’s America, or Martin Luther King’s America. JAY-Z has given this country a language to think with and words to live by.

Choices vs Decisions
This episode discusses Vell's difference between choices and decisions.
The Good Read for this episode is The Five People You Meet in Heaven by Mitch Albom.
Eddie, an 83-year-old man killed trying to save a young girl, wakes up in the afterlife, where his life is retold by five people. As Eddie recounts his many ups and downs, he sees what his life meant, in turn reminding all of us that no matter how menial we feel, our life has meaning. This is a moving novel of immense emotional resonance.
Eddie is a wounded war veteran, an old man who has lived, in his mind, an uninspired life. His job is fixing rides at a seaside amusement park. On his 83rd birthday, a tragic accident kills him, as he tries to save a little girl from a falling cart. He awakes in the afterlife, where he learns that heaven is not a destination. It's a place where your life is explained to you by five people, some of whom you knew, others who may have been strangers. One by one, from childhood to soldier to old age, Eddie's five people revisit their connections to him on earth, illuminating the mysteries of his "meaningless" life, and revealing the haunting secret behind the eternal question: "Why was I here?"

SINGLE ASF
This episode discusses Vell setting the record straight regarding his relationship status.
The Good Read for this episode is The Black Man's Guide to Romancing the Black Woman: Things Every Man Should Know About Every Woman by Dale J Kelly.
What is romance? There is no definitive description of romance except what one perceives from watching others. Where does romance begin? It actually begins with responsibility; men and women have to be responsible for themselves and their actions to effectively be called a man or a woman. How does romance play a part in our society? It allows us to take the time to get to know each other on many intimate levels without demeaning one another. It opens the lines of communication and forces us to talk to each other and dispense with name-calling and character assassination. Romance is a derivative of love (Eros) and in many ways we've confused love for other things that complicate relationships. We've allowed our focus to be distracted causing romance to take a back seat. The Black Man's Guide to Romancing the Black Woman is a common sense approach to dealing with such issues and hopefully making romance a priority in our relationships again.

The Things I Cherish Are Rarely Seen
This episode discusses Vell's value of privacy in safeguarding the things we cherish most.
The Good Read for this episode is The Power of Moments: Why Certain Experiences Have Extraordinary Impact by Chip Heath, Dan Heath.
While human lives are endlessly variable, our most memorable positive moments are dominated by four elements: elevation, insight, pride, and connection. If we embrace these elements, we can conjure more moments that matter. What if a teacher could design a lesson that he knew his students would remember twenty years later? What if a manager knew how to create an experience that would delight customers? What if you had a better sense of how to create memories that matter to your children?
This book delves into some fascinating mysteries of experience: Why we tend to remember the best or worst moment of an incident, the last moment, and forget the rest. Why “we feel most comfortable when things are certain, but we feel most alive when they’re not.” And why our most cherished memories are clustered into a brief period during our youth.
What's Popping in Vell's World consists of Monique on Club Shay Shay, more women have come forward about Johnathan Majors, Missouri Rep. Cori Bush is under scrutiny, and more.

Great topic!
I enjoyed this week’s topic, felt it was a very relevant and much needed perspective. So many lines have been blurred with dating that it leaves only self-reflective expectations and not a realistic approach.
Quick Bites
I enjoy this podcast. It’s real entertaining and it’s also a quick listen. It’s a perfect listen for my commute to work.
