There's outreach, friends intervening, getting help, another J pouch surgery, and some body and mind healing. Life starts moving forward, and good things start happening, but all get derailed by more complications. -

In this episode, life is on an upswing after leaving Camp Oasis. She has just been fired and cannot get another job because she has many surgeries ahead of her. She throws herself into Grad School to occupy her mind. MS relapse, an unsupportive boyfriend and professors, and a J-pouch surgery that does not go as planned. Then a bottoming out and a contemplation of suicide.

Jackie Zimmerman - Episode 6. Cleveland Clinic UC surgeries, ostomy, and Camp Oasis.
In this episode, Jackie and her parents are preparing for a series of three UC surgeries at the Cleveland Clinic. She shares a ridiculous story of having to prep for colon surgery while sharing a hotel bathroom with her parents and gives details of her exact procedure.
Jackie shares how the surgery did not go as planned, the difficulty with managing pain, feeling the loss of dignity, and how challenging the aftercare was in general. She struggles with her identity and her new life with an ostomy. Finally, she finds Camp Oasis (a camp for children with IBD), where, as a camp counselor, her life is changed forever for the better.

I met Sarah a long time ago in Michigan. She’s always been a cool person. Her and Sonya have great chemistry. When I listen, I feel like I’m sitting at a bonfire while they are talking about life and telling great stories.
