It’s January 1969 and The Beatles are commercially at their peak with a number one Album in the charts and the summers smash hit ‘Hey Jude.’ Professionally things couldn’t be worse, however. Paul has convinced them to rehearse for a live show before the cameras, but his band mates have misgivings which will only multiply as the days progress. This is ‘The Winter of Discontent’. And we’re going to listen in to what will transpire.

A unique Beatles podcast

In an ocean of Beatles podcasts, Nick managed to find a way to talk about the Beatles in an original and entertaining way. Focusing on the last year of the band, he lets the actual recordings of the Beatles tell the story while illuminating the listeners with clarifications and details only when needed.

Fantastic deep dive

For me the best part of this podcast is the analysis/breakdown of the songs, demonstrating the chords, time, key, influences, and more that make up each song. I could listen to a podcast comprised of just that for the whole Beatles catalogue!

However, there’s so much more fascinating information included that makes this podcast a unique and worthwhile standout in the sea of Beatles podcasts. Another favorite for me is the breakdown of what’s going on in the background historically, culturally, and personally for the Beatles that provides a greater context and understanding of everything that contributed to the making of Let It Be and the Get Back sessions. The narration and commentary throughout the tapes is incredibly helpful and useful, especially when it’s hard to hear what’s being said or you may not know what the Fabs are referring to. All around great editorial choices made for this pod.

I don’t want it to end - keep the episodes coming!

The deepest dive yet into the making of “Get Back”.

While I enjoyed Peter Jackson’s documentary, Nick‘s deep dive research into the same. Is much more informative and much more enjoyable. At least it is for me because Nick has gone through the trouble of finding The most interesting and informative parts of that period in The Beatles history. Thoroughly enjoyable. Thank you Nick!
