Who are DeenxDunya? - An All Female Initiative to Empower Women

Who are DeenxDunya? - An All Female Initiative to Empower Women

DeenxDunya (@deenxdunya_ on Instagram) have been impressive since day one of their project's launch, coming out with the best content promoting an introspective approach to our faith and encouraging commitment to our worldly endeavours - exactly the kind of faith-based project I wanted to see in our online media landscape.
DeenxDunya are "๐€๐ง ๐€๐ฅ๐ฅ-๐… That's answer enough for the question "Who are DeenxDunya?", but I want to go behind the scenes and pick their brains on how they managed to create such a cohesive and impactful project all while still working, studying and committing to other responsibilities in life.ย
I am joined by DeenxDunyaโ€™s ambitious founder Aneeza and their creative Social Media Manager Yousra as they bring me to the behind-the-scenes of DeenxDunya - how the project started, the planning, the team, its events, and future plans.
DeenxDunya are doing a tremendous job in the work for women empowerment and keeping oneโ€™s faith at the centre of our beings. I cannot wait to see what more they come out with!

Money and Financial Skills in Our 20s

Money and Financial Skills in Our 20s

Are financial skills - saving, budgeting, investing - something parents are supposed to teach us? Or something we all have to learn on our own as we stumble into the world of adulthood?

In this episode, I have one of my best friends Emi joining me. She spends too much money on McDonald's but still somehow had her financial boat floating because she invests in company stocks (but she also doesn't know how to read stock exchange charts...)

Join us, two people in our 20s having no idea what we are doing exactly but still trying, as we share our financial woes, budgeting techniques, how we save, and how we have a love-hate relationship with money.ย

"Your relationship with money is just you learning about yourself and what is best for you." - Emi Gurungย

I love that. Learning how to handle our money is another way to learn about ourselves.ย

The Epidemic of Domestic Violence in the Pakistani Community

The Epidemic of Domestic Violence in the Pakistani Community

Domestic violence is rife in the Pakistani community. I've witnessed it and heard about it. I have family members and friends who have been affected by it. I refuse to let it fester in our community any longer. It is time to have an open conversation about it.

Join me as I tackle this topic from a Pakistani-Muslim point of view, by focusing on misogynistic marriage practices, and the infamous sura 4, verse 34 from the Quran that is often used as justification for domestic violence.

Anti-Black Racism and Colourism in the Pakistani Community with Komal and Inka

Anti-Black Racism and Colourism in the Pakistani Community with Komal and Inka

*Apologies for this episode's audio quality on my side due to technical errors. This episode is on Anti-Black Racism and Colourism in the Pakistani community and how we can speak up about it. We discuss how colourism in the Pakistani community largely drives racism against black people from Pakistanis. I'm joined by my favourite and at this point regular guest Komal Ashfaq and our first-time guest Inka Rosi to speak on this. Both Inka and Komal have had different experiences with colourism because of their different skin complexion which further informs how we look at people with dark skin colour in societies all over the world.

Racism in Hong Kong with Komal and Zulakha

Racism in Hong Kong with Komal and Zulakha

This episode I'm joined by my wonderful friends Komal and Zulakha, to share our experiences of racism we face in Hong Kong on almost a daily basis, whether outwardly or indirectly. ย
This is one of the most important episodes of the podcast for me so far. I have had many formative experiences dealing with racism almost all my life in Hong Kong, some positive, many negative. ย It is a personal and vulnerable episode. ย
My friends Komal and Zulakha very generously offered their voices, experiences, and thoughts on this topic for this episode. We shared a lot with each other in this episode about what we face, how we feel and what we've been through. I think we might have forgotten that we were live and recording a podcast and this all turned into just 3 friends sharing their hearts and minds. It takes an open heart and a mature outlook to be this vulnerable on air about some of the most personal experiences. I cannot thank Komal and Zulakha more for this.ย
I hope you take something of value from this episode. And if there are your own experiences and thoughts with/on racism that you would like to share, please feel free to share them in the comments or send a message through on the podcast's social media DMs.ย
Thank you very much for listening!
