World of Chiropractic Rebekah Wilks, DC

Selina Sigafoose-Jackson is a 1989 graduate of Life Chiropractic College.  She practices in York, Pennsylvania with her husband Kevin Jackson since 1991. She grew up in a chiropractic family, she understands how crucial the philosophy of chiropractic is and spends most of her time in practice consulting and educating patients on the importance of understanding the body’s ability to regulate itself if given the opportunity.

She feels it is extremely important to educate quickly, efficiently, and passionately. She wants her people to leave her practice with enough information to make the best decision based on facts and information as opposed to hearsay. She created a new patient orientation that is under 14 minutes and her goal is to leave them saying “WOW”

Selina is one of the 14 founders of The League of Chiropractic Women and is on the Executive Board as Secretary/Treasurer.  She has also been the Secretary/Treasurer of the International Chiropractors Association for 6 years, Vice President for 2 years, as the first female to have ever held that position and in April 2021 first female Board Chair of the ICA.

Sira Borges graduated in Medicine from Bahia School of Medicine and Public Health in Salvador, Bahia, in 1971, and in Chiropractic from Palmer College of Chiropractic, Davenport, Iowa in 1990. 
She was the third chiropractor in Brazil and first woman.

Sira was the founder and president of the ABQ - Brazilian Chiropractic Association  (1992 -2002) and a leader responsible for the development of Brazil’s first two chiropractic programs, at FEEVALE University in Novo Hamburgo, Rio Grande do Sul, and Anhembi Morumbi University in São Paulo (1995 - 2002). She was also the coordinator of the Pro-Regulatory Commission for Chiropractic in Brazil - CPRQB (2006-2010).

Since 2006 she has served as the Executive Director of the Latin American Chiropractic Federation (FLAQ) and since 2002 has been the Latin American representative of the IBCE (International Board of Chiropractic Examiners).

Her many awards include the World Federation of Chiropractic Honor Award for outstanding contributions to the international development of the profession (2011), the Brazilian Association of Chiropractic Service Award from the Brazilian Chiropractic Association – ABQ (2012), the Lee Homewood Outstanding Pioneer Award from the Association for the History of Chiropractic (2015) and a Fellowship from the Palmer College of Chiropractic (2017).

Biography:
Michele Maiers, DC, MPH, PhD, is the Executive Director of Research and Innovation at Northwestern Health Sciences University (NWHSU) in Minneapolis, Minn. In her role, Dr. Maiers leverages high-quality research to inform healthcare policy and innovation initiatives on local, regional, and national levels. Her research utilizes mixed methods to inform a rich understanding of non-drug treatment options for spine-related pain, especially among older adults.

Dr. Maiers graduated from Northwestern College of Chiropractic and went on to earn a Master of Public Health degree in administration from the University of Minnesota, and a PhD in clinical research and biomechanics from the University of Southern Denmark.

She currently serves as president of the American Chiropractic Association (ACA). Dr. Maiers has previously held leadership positions in the World Federation of Chiropractic (WFC) and the Chiropractic Health Care section of the American Public Health Association (APHA).

Dr. Maiers has served on the ACA Board of Governors as vice president, as the Minnesota delegate in the House of Delegates, as an advisor to both the Student American Chiropractic Association (SACA) and NextGen, and SACA National Chair. She has also served on numerous ACA committees, advisory boards and task forces including the Opioid Advisory Board and the Strategic Planning and Clinical Guideline Review Committees.

Dr. Maiers believes strongly in the capacity for integrative and complementary professions to improve the health and wellbeing of the public. In her free time, Dr. Maiers enjoys traveling, running, baking pies, and spending time with her family.

Dr. Deb Bushway, PhD
Dr. Bushway currently serves as the President and CEO at Northwestern Health Sciences University, where she previously served as Provost and Executive Vice President. She has also served as a consultant to the Lumina Foundation regarding Competency Based Education in Higher Education. She was previously an Advisor in the Office of the Undersecretary at the Department of Education in Washington, DC. Prior to this, she was an interim associate Dean at the University of Wisconsin – Extension and the Chief Academic Officer and Vice President of Academic Innovation, Provost and interim President at Capella University. She has long been interested in innovations in higher education designed to improve student success. In fact, she pioneered the development and implementation of a successful competency based, direct assessment program. This delivery model strives to improve transparency of learning outcomes while reducing costs and improving completion rates for adults working to earn postsecondary degrees. She has expertise in distance education and its surrounding technologies, including LMS, student success solutions, adaptive learning and financial aid delivery.

Dr. Bushway has more than 20 years of experience in higher education, including 17 years with Metropolitan State University in St. Paul, Minnesota, where she held a variety of faculty and leadership roles. She earned both her Master of Science and Ph.D. in Psychology from Iowa State University. She has authored numerous articles, book chapters and conference presentations throughout her career. She recently co-authored the book “A Leader’s Guide to Competency-Based Education: From Inception to Implementation”. In addition to ongoing professional interests regarding adult learners in higher education, Bushway is currently focused on methods of innovation in established institutions, the application of action analytics to higher education and the power of competency based education to support our nation’s educational goals.

The Board of Trustees appointed Dr. Deb Bushway as the President of Northwestern Health Sciences University on November 12, 2018.

He is the Founder & CEO of RRS Education, a continuing education company providing weekly Research Reviews, informative Seminars & convenient, evidence-based E-Learning options for chiropractors, physiotherapists & osteopaths around the world. 

Dr. Thistle has been a part-time faculty member at the Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College in the Orthopedics Department for 17 years. Shawn currently serves on the Research Committee for the Canadian Chiropractic Research Foundation (CCRF), as well as the Steering Committee for the Canadian Chiropractic Guideline Initiative (CCGI). 

He lives in Cookstown - a small town just north of Toronto, Canada - with his wife Katie and two young sons (Calvin and Everett).
