Ross Kemp on Bearing Witness to Extreme Lives
Actor, author, presenter Ross Kemp joins me for a conversation we’ve wanted to have for a long time. Ross is renowned for playing the iconic character Grant Mitchell in the long-running British soap opera "EastEnders," but I wanted to discuss some of the extreme situations he has faced (i.e. reporting on gangs) over his years working on documentary projects, and what those experiences have meant to him. We also discuss his series “Ross Kemp Living With…,” in which he covers knife crime, online gambling, homelessness, and more. Ross is a warm, insightful soul, with thoughtful takes on societal issues.

Tristan Harris on the Hijacking of Your Consciousness
He's the co-founder and Executive Director of the Center for Humane Technology. (You may also remember or recognize him from the 2020 film "The Social Dilemma" on Netflix. It’s a must-see. We spoke not longer after the film was released.) Trained as a computer scientist, and formerly an ethicist at Google, Harris is now an exciting and innovative activist for reforming technology. In this episode, Tristan explains the power of the attention economy, revealing how social media sites are engineered to capture our time and monetize our brain impulses without us even realizing that it’s happening. He also, thankfully, discusses how he is optimistic that positive change is possible in the tech industry. Can we ensure that our future doesn’t turn into products merely mined for our attention, time, and data. How can we can change these algorithmic paradigms to serve us. rather than the other way around? Listen, learn, reflect.

One of the best
Been listening to the podcast for two months now and I am impressed, even thinking of subscribing once
Under the skin series
Love this, to hear other people’s views on things one thinks about, how you touch on everyday matters but yet a deeper level, it’s a very fine balance, to talk about important concepts and things that people don’t really look at in their daily lives. Thank you these podcasts have helped me to think outside the box and actually understanding what living is actually about outside of our daily routines.

Man it’s good to listen to someone who thinks about the deeper issues of life and question ideals with an open mind. I’ve been learning so much from you and your guests and value this podcast so much. My favourite discussions were talking with extremists, vulnerability with Brene and seeds and weeds with Jay. Soo good!!
