Qualities of a Faithful Pastor (1 Thessalonians 2:1-6)

Qualities of a Faithful Pastor (1 Thessalonians 2:1-6)

In 1 Thessalonians 2:1-6, the Apostle Paul reminds the church in Thessalonica of how he served them as a faithful minister of the Gospel and not for selfish gain. In this passage, we not only learn about the conduct of Paul but we are given a picture of what a faithful pastor looks like.

    Temptations Will Come (Matthew 18:5-9)

    Temptations Will Come (Matthew 18:5-9)

When Jesus’ disciples asked who would be the greatest in the Kingdom, Jesus said that those who humbled themselves like a small child would be greatest. They needed to change their perspective and their attitude.

In that context, Jesus continued and warned of the great
judgment that awaited any who would undermine and ruin the faith of a disciple having immature or weak faith. We will all face temptation, but woe to the one through whom it comes.

We also have to deal with temptation from within. Jesus said that if we were not willing to do whatever it takes to be free of those things that will bring inner temptation, we risk the fires of hell.

Greatest in the Kingdom (Matthew 18:1-6)

Greatest in the Kingdom (Matthew 18:1-6)

Who is the greatest in the Kingdom of Heaven? That is a question that Jesus’ disciples privately discussed and debated. When Jesus answered the question, He did so in a way that they were surely not anticipating. Unless they became like children, they would not even enter the Kingdom of Heaven.

The disciples needed a change of heart and mind. Many of us do as well. We must humble ourselves and become like children. We need the accept the humble position of a young child within the household. We need a childlike faith which holds and implicit trust and confidence in the character, word, and commands of the heavenly Father.

All Things Together for Good (Romans 8:28)

All Things Together for Good (Romans 8:28)

Romans 8:28 is a well-known and well-loved verse, but it is often misunderstood and misapplied. The true promise of this verse is not that God is working out ‘all things’ to give you comfort in life, but that He is working out all things to bring you into conformity with Christ.

Of Matters Big and Small (Matthew 17:22-27)

Of Matters Big and Small (Matthew 17:22-27)

In this passage from Matthew's Gospel we see both Jesus' prophetic statement that He was "about to be delivered into the hands of men" and an interaction between Him and Peter regarding paying the Temple tax.

Although seemingly unrelated, both of these events have much to teach us about Jesus' identity as the Son of Man.

Nothing Shall Be Impossible (Matthew 17:14-20)

Nothing Shall Be Impossible (Matthew 17:14-20)

In Matthew 17 and in the parallel passage found in Mark 9, Jesus' disciples are unable to heal a boy possessed by a demon who often through him into the water or into the fire. After Jesus casts out the demon, He explains to His disciples that it is by faith — even faith the size of a mustard seed — that we can accomplish great things to the glory of God.
