A joint venture between Tecla Ciolfi (TATC’s curator & editor), producers Jonathan Inggs and Matthew Loots (Unicorn Media) and research assistant Al Clapper, listen in weekly to find out why Texx Talks slaps harder than a warm Ben 10 on a cold night.

Xxtra: Anica Kiana
Over at Texx Talks, we get a huge number of artists reaching out to us to highlight their amazing content, and because we plan our seasons quite far in advance, we often can’t accommodate requests to spotlight some of the amazing “up and coming” talent South Africa, Africa and the world has to offer. And so we started Texx Talks Xxtra.
This time around we have Anica Kiana, a breakout singer- songwriter from Cape town, South Africa. Already having collabed with the biggest, one feels her best is yet to come.

From the Vault: Msaki
In light of her five, yes five SAMA nods, we thought we would bring back this gem from our vault.
Msaki is a singer and songwriter whose deeply soulful vocals and lyrics carry profound messages that resonate with everyone who’s had the pleasure of hearing her sing and seeing her perform.
This Eastern Cape-born musician has created songs that combine soulful folk with symphonic movements, Xhosa lyrics with African poly-rhythms and her raw delivery disrupts your senses as she sings of love and loss, and home and hope.
From speaking about being an advocate for change, to her collaboration on some of SA’s most beloved house tracks, Msaki is undeniably one of the most important modern voices to put thought to bars.

But that's not all you need to know about our guest this time around. This New Orleans born and bred soul artist has just released his biggest and best album called “Watch The Sun” on his own label, Morton Records
Over the course of 11 songs, all expertly written and produced, that deal with the complexities of love in all its forms, he marks the next chapter in a remarkable career that continues to bridge style traditions and generations.
From his humble beginnings as the son of a preacher man, to coming to terms with his identity, to feeling the presence of Stevie Wonder on an airplane near the WC, PJ Morton is an exemplar of the exceptional.

Customer Reviews
Insightful and humorous
Absolutely love hearing all the finer details in the industry, it helped me appreciate my favorite artist and their work even more!
I’m completely hooked, been binging a like 3 episodes at work every day.
@gabriella_murta
There were so many moments that I enjoyed from this week’s episode. Great job as usual, Texx! But my favourite would have to be Shekhinah’s discussion about women in the music industry and the lack of female sound engineers. I relate heavily to this as I am a female engineer in the artificial intelligence and software industry. With music being my passion as well, I am elated to hear more about the great work Shekhinah is doing to promote positive representation and awareness in this space! Thank you for the inspiration and motivation.
Honest, Raw
Text Talks is right down my alley, providing the real get-down on what’s happening in the minds of South Africa’s most interesting musicians. The level of personal level journalism takes me back to the days of Rolling Stone and NME magazines, but with the flavour of a scene that I know and love as a proud South African.
It’s great to have this content showcasing great music, and packaged so well.
