Welcome back to A Pod of Their Own, an all-women led Home Run Applesauce podcast where we talk all things Mets, social justice issues in baseball, and normalize female voices in the sports podcasting space.  This week, we begin by discussing this incredible past week of Mets baseball, in which the Mets swept the Nationals and took two of three from the Phillies - all without their best player in the lineup. We look ahead to this pivotal Braves series that is likely to determine the season, as we knew it would, and discuss potential playoff matchups, should the Mets make it that far. Next, we talk about the incredible run that the Detroit Tigers are on, John Fisher’s disingenuous letter to A’s fans, and the release of the video of Julio Urias’ domestic violence incident.  Finally, we wrap things up with Walk-off Wins, where we talk about this year’s incredible record-breaking Dollars for Dingers raffle event.  You can listen or subscribe to all of our wonderful Home Run Applesauce podcasts through Apple Podcasts, where we encourage you to leave a review if you enjoy the show. It really helps! And you can find us on the Stitcher app, Spotify, or listen wherever you get podcasts. 2. RIP Billy Bean

    RIP Billy Bean

Grace is finally back again, and she gives a general apology and reason for her absence. She then delves into the last month of Mets baseball and how exciting it has been. The breakouts, the injuries, the fun, the drama, it's all here and centered in Flushing, baby! Next, she eulogizes the late, great Billy Bean, who was discussed in length just over a year ago on this very show. She talks about how less than a week after his death his absence was strongly felt in the Jarren Duran gay slur controversy. She discusses how clearly there is a voice missing from the discussion now and all sides are worse off because of it, but also maybe the league should care a little more? (They won't.) Finally, a double movie minute of two documentaries about famous queer men. One about an American hero who, evidence supports, loved men quite a bit. And the other about an American icon whose sexuality he was forced to suppress and hide to reach the heights of fame in the mid-20th century. Asking the non-Francisco Lindor contingent to step it up

Welcome back to A Pod of Their Own, an all-women led Home Run Applesauce podcast where we talk all things Mets, social justice issues in baseball, and normalize female voices in the sports podcasting space.  This week, we beg the Mets to find a way to get it done without Francisco Lindor, which seems like a very tall order right now for the offense. We also talk about Luisangel Acuña’s major league debut and some other injury updates; wouldn’t it be neat if Kodai Senga pitched in a game that mattered this season? Next, we talk about White Sox GM Chris Getz just putting up with the cards he’s been dealt…when he’s the dealer. We also shout out the Mets’ new COO hire Samantha Engelhardt. Our 2024 Dollars for Dingers campaign is underway and you can make a pledge using this Google spreadsheet: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1n2eZFl_nmzP4C83ccbb61Ggwz2r7m-kapJ6L0SXz4IU/edit?usp=sharing We also hope to see you on September 21st at EBBS at Citi Field at 1:30pm for our raffle event prior to the Mets game!  Finally, we wrap things up with Walk-off Wins, where each of us talks about what’s making us happy this week, baseball-related or otherwise.  You can listen or subscribe to all of our wonderful Home Run Applesauce podcasts through Apple Podcasts, where we encourage you to leave a review if you enjoy the show. 4. Tylor Megill is inevitable

    Tylor Megill is inevitable

Welcome back to A Pod of Their Own, an all-women led Home Run Applesauce podcast where we talk all things Mets, social justice issues in baseball, and normalize female voices in the sports podcasting space.  This week, we begin by discussing the incredible run the Mets went on in the past week, from which two things stood out: the incredible performance of the bullpen and Mark Vientos’ bat.  It hasn’t been all sunshine and rainbows, though. Jeff McNeil is out for the year with a wrist fracture and Paul Blackburn was scratched tonight after being slated to return from the injured list, so we also cover those injuries. We also take a moment to remember Ed Kranepool, who passed away at the age of 79. Next, we talk about ESPN using generative AI to write recaps instead of hiring actual writers.
