The pandemic has put to a test conventional economic structures across the globe, including in the Caribbean. It will not be business as usual going forward and for this edition, Dr. Stephen Metzger, Economics Professor at Fordham University shares his opinion on aspects of the Caribbean recovery.
Will there be a role for the U.S. and China in the region’s recovery, and what might that role be given the geopolitical tensions between the two countries; and does the experience of the pandemic portend any shifts in the Caribbean economy?
Dr. Stephen Metzger is a professional economist, having worked in the private sector and with Asian companies for over 30 years before becoming an academic. He spent many years consulting with some of the largest Japanese, South Korean, and Chinese companies in manufacturing, automotive electronics, and energy.
He attended Yale University for his Bachelors, and Rice University for his Ph.D. As an academic, he teaches development economics with a focus on the Caribbean and the maritime sector.
