Gen X, This is Why.

Jennie + Amye
Gen X, This is Why. Podcast

Gen X, This is Why is a podcast that re-examines the sometimes bizarre and often scarring media from our shared childhood. Jennie and Amye, sisters and sometimes mortal enemies, are your hosts. Our first stop is Walnut Grove as we take a fresh look at our favorite frontier family (as if we can name another), the Ingalls. There is some seriously weird sh*t in this show that answers a lot of questions... Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

Patreon Release: After-School Special: What Are Friends For? (1980)

After-School Special: What Are Friends For? (1980) This episode is from our Patreon archives and originally aired in February of 2021 and remains one of our favorites of all time! Twelve-year-old Amy Warner is the new kid on the block after she and her freshly-divorced mother move to California. All is fine until Amy meets Michelle Mudd, a tween who loves dogs, rainbows, shoplifting, and blood sacrifices. Amy grows concerned when Michelle attempts to cast a spell on her father’s new girlfriend and frames Amy for shoplifting at the local store. This is bonkers. We get an inside look at Jennie’s teenage bedroom, Amye revisits her brief life of crime, and we both agree that Charlie Chaplin posters have no place in a teenager’s bedroom. Oh, and there are a ton of creepy dolls. You’ve been warned. Please note: As of May, 2023, there will be NO NEW content on our patreon feed. You are welcome to sign up, listen to the archives- of which there are MANY, and then unsubscribe when finished. 2. Gen X, That Was a Thing: The Abduction of Steven Stayner

    03/04/2023

Gen X, That Was a Thing: The Abduction of Steven Stayner

Trigger warnings for this episode include: suicide ideation, murder, kidnapping, sexual assault, and rape.  It’s every parent’s worst nightmare, the image of your child’s face helplessly peering out the rear window of a stranger's car as it drives away from you and slips into the unknown. For Kay and Dilbert Stayner, this nightmare became a reality when their seven-year-old son, Steven, was kidnapped on his way home from school in Merced, CA, in 1972. For seven long years, Steven’s family searched for him while he was living in northern California with his abductor, Kenneth Parnell. Steven’s story is one of tragedy, sorrow, and unexpected heroism as he plotted his escape and saved the life of Parnell’s newest victim, five-year-old Timmy White. Steven’s story was captured in the very popular 1989 mini-series, I Know My First Name is Steven. But the Stayner family’s story doesn’t end with them reuniting with their son after seven long years. In a bizarre twist, more tragedy befalls this family as Steven’s older brother sets out to make a name for himself in the most horrific way.  Corrections: In the episode, we failed to mention the mini-series was written by Mike Echols who later turned the manuscript into a book. Movie first, book second. The mini-series first aired in November, 1989, not 1983.
