For today's episode, we had the honor to speak to Shruti Kumar -- a music producer and composer based in Los Angeles. Listening to Shruti's journey as a woman who film scores resonated deeply with us, especially after the New York Times' profile on the topic of the gender gap existing in the field. Shruti has worked with artists such as Nas, Alicia Keys, Fiona Apple and more, and her compositions have been used in programs such as NPR and National Geographic. Vira began working as an intern for Electric Lady Studios, and when the internship ended, she thought she would never work at a studio again. Fast forward four years and Vira held the title of Assistant Manager at that very studio. Vira found a way to marry her undeniable talent with her passion for community organizing by co-founding Now What (@nowwhat.nyc on IG), an organization which connects people who work in diverse sectors of the music industry.
