A potent example is Barry’s redesign of Sandy Hook School in Newton CT following its unspeakable school shooting. Instead of shutting himself away and designing a veritable super-max fortress of iron bars, metal detectors and razor wire in the name of school safety, Barry simply sat back and listened. He listened to the survivors. He listened their parents. He listened to the students. The teachers. The janitors. The administration staff. The neighbors… Everyone in and around the community with a connection to the school. The result? Definitely not a fortress but a paradigm shift in the idea of "school safety."
