Inspiring Role Models Sue Coles

In this episode, I'll be shining the light on Marcus Rashford, the Manchester United and England footballer.  He has a luxury lifestyle now, but his story is one of free school meals, soup kitchens, breakfast clubs and food banks.  He has truly experienced poverty, first-hand.  Marcus Rashford, this week successfully campaigned for the government to make a U-turn and extend its free school meals voucher scheme over the summer holidays - a change of policy that will benefit 1.3m children in the UK.
In doing so, he has stood up for what he believes in.  He's challenged authority in a dignified way and set a great example of how to communicate to connect and gain influence.  This highlights a characteristic that we believe makes a truly inspiring role model.

In this episode we’re shining the spotlight on the former first lady of the USA, Michelle Obama who has been a role model we’ve admired for years.     
I explore why we believe she’s a worthy contender to demonstrate our theme of being an example to others.   We look at the characteristics that have enabled her to successfully navigate through the media spotlight and how she deals with the challenges that come with being in such a high profile role.    

We also look into the important work she undertakes with young women in education and the impact she is having.  We also highlight the set of values she lives by to create harmony and set the moral tone.


We’ll be asking you how you handle situations when you have a differing opinion with someone else and share one of the quotes that has become a mantra that Michelle is known for.

We will be exploring if you consciously have a role model in your life and if you do, what you respect and admire about the person you’ve chosen?
We take a look at where we should be taking our inspiration from, who is making a difference in the world and why looking outside of our immediate surroundings to find the people who inspire us is so important.    
We’ll also be asking you to consider if you are a role model to others and what others would say about you.
