For more than 60 years, the tobacco industry has been target marketing to the African American community and particularly to its youth. With flavored cigarette products led by menthol cigarettes, it is now the leading cause of preventable death among African Americans. Greetings again on that of Morgan. In the 1950s, less than 10% of black smokers used menthol cigarettes.  In the 1950s, less than 10% of black smokers used menthol cigarettes. Now that number has risen to over 85%. Menthol cigarettes are marketed heavily, are widely available, and priced cheaper in black community.  The Colorado Black Health Collaborative is a community based Health Organization which has a project of working to stop and in the use of menthol cigarettes specifically among youth and to end smoking in general in the community.

American Stroke Month in May and the American Heart Association and the American Stroke Association are focused on raising awareness about stroke warning signs and taking action to prevent a future stroke.  Strokes are the fifth leading cause if death in America and is the number one cause of disabilities.  Balance (difficulty to walk or clumsy), Eyes (vision loss especially in one eye), Face (weakness on one side of the face), Arm (weakness in the arm/arms), Speech (slurred speech or inability to communicate), Time (it is time to call 911), are all signs of a stroke.  Most people cannot identify the signs of a stroke and even the ones that can, less than half will call for help.  Strokes can happen to people of all ages.

Write On Sports works with underserved middle school kids.  Write on Spots encourages kids to write about something the love about sports and the sports industry.  They have a two-week summer camp at Metro Denver.  They learn how to shoot videos, how to interview athletes, podcasting, guest panels with professional athletes, field trips to the Rockies game.  Durin the two weeks the kids have to write spot stories and one feature story.  At the end of the camp, everything is published in a magazine.

A mental health challenge is generally what leads people to complete the act of suicide, Make Mental Health Matter is getting to that root cause.  There's still a lot of barriers that people have to navigate as we talk about mental health.  Make Mental Health Matter is trying to give everyday people the tools and the resources and the skills to identify the signs and symptoms of a mental health or substance abuse challenge so that you can get them connected to the appropriate professional health or possibly self-help strategies.  You are not week or crazy asking for help.  The simplest tool we can do for ourselves is smile.  Rock Your Wellness is July 13th, there will be different vendors, bands, a gratitude walk, lots of food trucks and a mobile blood drive bus.

Not only do they have a store front, they also offer free pick up and delivery.  They also have a program to help kids under 14 who want to play piano but cannot afford one and get them one for free.
