South Africa's political landscape is still settling after the African National Congress's rush to form a government of national unity after failing to win a parliamentary majority in last month's election. Party leader Cyril Ramaphosa has been reelected as the country's president, but the ANC is still announcing new partners. The collective that it's cobbled together so far represents 273 seats in the National Assembly. However, Jacob Zuma's MK party has said it will join an alliance with the opposition.

South Africa holds its first parliamentary session after its historic seventh election in which the ANC lost its majority in parliament. The coalition government as it stands has the ANC joining forces with the opposition DA and the smaller IFP, as well as relative newcomers the Patriotic Alliance. 

The UN Security Council has called for an end to the RSF paramilitary's brutal siege of the Darfuri city of El Fasher. We hear rare testimony from one resident who managed to escape but whose family is still stuck in the gunfire and bombings. Also, it has been two years since M23 rebels captured DR Congo's major town of Bunagana, with no end in sight to the fighting. Plus we head to Elmina in Ghana, where the Edina Bakatue Festival is celebrating 500 years of history. 

In tonight's edition: As the World Health Organization warns of the prospect of mass starvation in war-stricken Sudan, we speak to the former director of Médecins Sans Frontières about the devastation being wrought on the Darfuri city of El Fasher. Also, as Ghana moves a step closer to unlocking millions in support from the International Monetary Fund by settling a deal to restructure debt owed to creditor nations, we hear from business leaders who are pitching for investment. Plus, Kenyan and Nigerian content producers who use Facebook and Instagram will be paid by Meta from this month.

Saulos Chilima, the vice president of Malawi, and nine others were flying within the country on Monday morning when their aircraft disappeared from airport radars. Roughly 24 hours later, the wreck of a plane has been found with no survivors on board.

Medics from international aid group Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF), who were working at the main hospital in the besieged Darfur city of El Fasher, say the facility has had to close after attacks from RSF fighters. The paramilitary group on one side of the brutal conflict engulfing Sudan reportedly raided the site on Sunday, opening fire on staff and patients.
