    Food, Family, & Business

Cory & Rebecca Conklin Cory is a husband and father and has been overweight the majority of his life. For many years he ate a low carb diet off and on with some success but never stuck to it. At his highest he weighed almost 280lbs, and at his lowest he got down to 190lbs. Unfortunately, he let himself go after getting down to 190lbs, and got back up to 240lbs. Right before Thanksgiving of 2017 his wife Rebecca challenged him to lose weight, and on Thanksgiving day he started his journey of a Keto Lifestyle. Rebecca is a wife and mother, and unlike Cory has not had weight struggles her entire life. She has been a naturally thin person all of her life. After Rebecca and Cory got married, Rebecca had a difficult time trying to adjust her cooking habits to become low carb friendly. It was a struggle at first but over the last several years she has adapted very well to cooking keto meals and has even come up with several on her own for the family. Rebecca is a good example of someone who did not come to Keto or carnivore for weight loss but rather came to it for the other benefits. For the past two years Cory and Rebecca have been living the keto lifestyle and have seen dramatic changes in their health both mentally and physically. More recently they switched over to a more Carnivore approach and have seen even greater improvements both mentally and physically in their bodies. Together they raise their two boys Daniel and Samuel (6 and 4) who they started out as keto kids from day one because Cory did not want his boys to grow up with the pain and issues that he grew up with as a child. Together Cory and Rebecca are doing all that they can to help people understand that it is possible to live keto and low carb as a family and that it is healthy for adults and kids. They are accomplishing this by setting the example for others to follow and by providing people with products to make it easier to live keto, low carb and even carnivore. I’d also like to add that they are the owners of Select Savory Seasonings, a company that offers fresh, gourmet, sugar free spices and seasonings. Without further ado, welcome to the show, Cory & Rebecca Conklin!

    DNA Keto

    DNA Keto

Our guest this week is a close friend of ours who was born in Eugene Oregon on December 7th, 1951, the youngest of twins and 5th of 6 boys. He moved to Memphis Tennessee in 1952 (which is where he got his ya’ll) where he lived for the next 13 years. During that time his mother’s alcoholism tok over her life and he and his brothers were left pretty much on their own without guidance. They all managed not to kill themselves or each other somehow. Needless to say their diets all sucked. Fast and junk food were the order of the day for every meal. The schools served Hot dogs and PBJ sandwiches everyday for lunch. In 1968 his mother left but left them with his Step Father who was ill prepared to care for 3 young boys. He arranged through his Grand Mother to put them in Boys Town until his father could come from Oregon to get him about a year later. He graduated from Bend Sr. High School in 1970 and joined the US Army on Sept 1st, 1972 as a Private (E1). After Basic Training at Fort Ord in California and Advanced Individual Training (AIT) at Fort Huachuca Arizona, he served initial enlisted assignment in the 2nd Armored Division Artillery at Fort Hood Texas under Gen George Patton Jr. 32 years later (and 3 inches shorter) he retired as a Chief Warrant Officer Five after working his way to Staff Sergeant and then from Warrant Officer One. The pinnacle of his 32 year Army Carreer was as the first Chief Warrant Officer of the Field Artillery. Since Retiring in Sep 2004 he has worked as an Employee of a Defense Contractor under an Army Weather System and completed his Bachelors of Science Degree in Business Administration. For the last 7 years he’s worked as an IT Specialist for Region 2 of the Federal Emergency Management Agency. He helps keep the people working that help people and local and tribal governments recover from the various Natural Disasters that have occurred over the last 7 + years on the East Coast, PR and the USVI.

He has one of the most interesting backgrounds of anyone I know, and he has done it all--dozens of marathons, several serious and debilitating injuries, but he keeps bouncing back. I have worked with Rodger for over a year and what strikes me about him most is a few things. 1) his dedication to his training and nutrition, 2) his great attitude, despite the setbacks 3) his generosity and kind nature, and lastly, 4) his insatiable appetite for learning. We are gonna get into a ton of interesting topics today so welcome to the show, our great friend Rodger Padgett!

    Red Light Rising

    Red Light Rising

This week’s guest is Bryan Gohl. Bryan is a biohacker, avid self-experimenter, wellness expert, yoga teacher, and health coach. He has been interested in health, wellness and exercise for many years. His father first taught him to do push ups and sit ups when he was about 5 years old. A few years after that he began making his own dumbbells out of garden posts and broken bricks. When he turned 15 he was finally allowed to join his local gym and began hitting the weights with fierce commitment! After nearly 12 years of exploring wellness and exercise in all its forms, he settled into vegetarianism for 7 years under the impression that it was indeed the healthiest way to eat. After suffering various degenerative conditions mostly in the form of near constant, debilitating joint pain and serious digestive issues, he finally relented to the fact that his diet may have been playing a role in his failing health. That’s when he discovered the Bulletproof diet and biohacking. Fast forward 4 years and he is healthier and stronger than he has ever been, mostly thanks to a low carb high fat diet and the variety of biohacks that he practices everyday. One of those biohacks is red light therapy. Red light therapy is one of Bryan’s favorite bio hacks with which he’s noticed wonderful benefits. That's why he decided to co-find Red Light Rising, using his passion for sharing the principles of wellness and spreading the word about red light therapy. Today we will be talking about red light therapy among a few other topics. Welcome to the show, Bryan Gohl.

This week’s guest is a great friend and source of inspiration for us. Sian Haworth-Liu is using a ketogenic diet to achieve optimal physical performance, body composition and a healthy lifestyle. She’s a PT assistant, supermom, and physique competitor. Her first show was at the end of July, where she placed 2nd in 3 different divisions! She also just competed in the 1st NAKA keto games and expo in Dallas and got 1st place. Sian loves sharing her love of food and fitness with her community in order to educate people on how they can optimize their health with food. Her instagram page - @ketophatgirl (which stands for powerful, healthy and toned), and her youtube page “my fat fueled life” are her main two platforms for sharing this message. People need to start taking their health into their own hands and stop listening to false claims by the food and drug industry, and we believe Sian is a great ambassador for that change! Welcome to the show, Sian Haworth-Liu!

    Fat Fueled Ultra Endurance

    Fat Fueled Ultra Endurance

This week’s guest is Carlos Dones. Carlos was born in Chicago, IL and currently resides in LA. After finishing his enlistment in the US Marine Corps, Carlos found himself out of shape and bored to tears. So he decided to start running again, something he did a lot of in his youth and during his military service. But it wasn’t enough for him to just run, he had to do something that challenged him, that forced him to prove himself capable of achieving something that most people would never be able to. He decided to run ridiculously long races. Carlos has participated in multiple endurance events over the past 20 years, including 50-mile runs, 100-mile runs, multiple-day, non-stop events, such as his most recent race, the Grand2Grand, which is 170 miles, 7 day, 6 stage race across the Utah desert in September of 2105. And he did it all while keto. After deciding that he needed to find a better way, he got together with Vinnie Tortorich, and Vinnie coached him on his nutrition. Carlos says that he would never have been able to finish the race if he wasn’t ketogenic. Today we will talk about his mindset, his training and the way he fuels for these events. Welcome to the show, Carlos Dones!
