23. Designing Your Career For Each Season Of Your Life

The Career Confidence Podcast

Hey hey, welcome to another episode of The Career Confidence Podcast!

During my time off in between jobs, I was thinking about how I’ve designed my career for each season of my life. If you’ve been listening to the podcast for a while now, you would know that I started my career working in a large law firm and that at the beginning I loved it and thought “I'd made it”. But then, a couple years in, I knew it wasn’t the right environment for me, which led to me quitting that role with nothing lined up.

At the time I thought I wasn’t cut out to be a lawyer because I believed that there was no other way that you could have a successful career as a lawyer other than climbing the corporate ladder. And so that’s what started this journey of intentionally designing my career.

After reflecting back on my career, I’ve realised that ever since I quit my first job as a lawyer that I took it upon myself to get intentional and clear about how I wanted my career to look like, rather than just taking the next logical step.

Now, taking the next logical step is fine, however it becomes an issue when you’re feeling unhappy and you’re going against your own desires and dreams in order to take the next logical steps because “it makes sense” and “it’s the only way to be successful”.

There are so many ways that you can carve out your career path, one that aligns with you and your desires. In today’s episode I will go deeper into what career design is and how you can design your career for each season of your life.
